No—Lipton Peach Iced Tea was not discontinued. Lipton said the March 2025 announcement was an April Fools-style prank, and its current UK and PepsiCo FAQs confirm the drink is staying. The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) later upheld complaints, ruling that the posts were likely to mislead consumers into thinking the flavor was genuinely being withdrawn.
What happened with Lipton Peach Ice Tea?
On March 18, 2025, Lipton Ice Tea posted on Instagram and TikTok that its “iconic Peach Lipton Ice Tea flavour is getting discontinued.” The post showed a can with wings and used the phrases “REST IN PEACH” and “RIPeach.” Because the announcement appeared about two weeks before April Fools’ Day and did not clearly identify itself as a joke, customers could reasonably take it as real.
Lipton told the ASA it had planned to reveal the joke on April 1, but moved up the clarification after negative comments. PerthNow reported that Lipton clarified the next day, March 19, saying: “Got my dates mixed up. . . thought it was April Fools already! I’d never take away your favourite flavour, pookies.” A Lipton spokesperson also said the flavor “isn’t going anywhere!”
Lipton’s UK FAQ now describes the announcement as a playful April Fools prank and confirms Peach Ice/Iced Tea is here to stay. PepsiCo’s Lipton customer FAQ separately answers: “No, Peach Iced Tea is not being discontinued.”

Why did the ASA uphold complaints?
In a ruling dated July 9, 2025, the ASA upheld complaints about the Instagram and TikTok ads. The ruling recorded five complaints and found that the posts breached CAP Code rule 3.1 on misleading advertising. The regulator said the timing—well before April Fools’ Day—and the lack of clear joke context made the posts look like a genuine discontinuation notice.
“Therefore, given the timing of the ads and the lack of clear context to explain or suggest that the ads were a joke, we considered they gave the overall impression that the product was being discontinued, when that was not the case, which was likely to affect consumers’ decisions in relation to whether, and in what quantities, to purchase the product.”

The ASA told Lipton not to run the ads again in their current form and said future advertising must not misleadingly imply a product is discontinued when it is not. The five complaints are the regulator’s recorded count; they do not measure how many people saw or believed the posts.
How widespread was the customer backlash?
PerthNow reported that customers were confused and angry, and that some Australians rushed to supermarkets to stock up before learning the announcement was a prank. Its examples illustrate the reaction but are not a representative survey or a measured count. The available reporting does not establish how many people believed the claim, were upset by it, or bought extra stock.
