Germany is one of Europe’s largest solar photovoltaic markets, but available evidence does not establish which panel manufacturers lead German sales or installed capacity. LONGi and JinkoSolar rank among the world’s largest module suppliers; that global scale is not proof that either dominates Germany. For a German project, compare modules against the roof or site, system design, support and whole-system economics—not a presumed national brand ranking.
What the German market data can—and cannot—tell you
Germany’s Federal Network Agency reported that solar capacity grew by 16.4 GW in 2025, reaching 117 GW at year-end. These are preliminary figures based on registrations in the Market Master Data Register; December was partly estimated, and the agency said a final analysis would follow in its monthly publication. Additions were roughly split between building-mounted and ground-mounted solar. Bundesnetzagentur’s 2025 figures.
Germany Trade & Invest describes the country as a leading European PV market. It reports that most systems installed in 2025 were below 30 kWp, while self-consumption and battery storage are among the market’s drivers. That points to a mix of residential and small installations alongside commercial and utility-scale projects; it does not identify which module brands captured the most sales. A market’s installed capacity and annual additions measure deployment, not the market share of individual panel brands. The sources available here do not provide a reliable Germany-specific manufacturer sales or installed-base ranking. They therefore cannot support a league table of companies “dominating” Germany.

LONGi and JinkoSolar are global leaders, not proven German market leaders
Enerdata’s 2026 briefing reports 2025 global module shipments of 87 GW for LONGi and 86 GW for JinkoSolar. Those worldwide figures show the manufacturers’ scale, but they are not German sales, deliveries into Germany or German installed-base shares. Enerdata’s 2025 global shipment briefing.
JinkoSolar’s 2025 annual filing says it had delivered more than 390 GW of modules cumulatively by year-end 2025, with cumulative Tiger Neo series shipments exceeding 220 GW. These are company-reported global cumulative volumes, not measures of its presence in Germany. JinkoSolar annual filings.

Manufacturer, installer, distributor and project developer are different roles. A module brand’s global shipments do not establish which brands German installers specify, which products are locally available, or which companies have the largest German installed base. Treat claims of German brand leadership cautiously unless they cite a direct, clearly defined German market-share dataset.
German production and imports provide context, not a brand ranking
Germany’s Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported that the value of imported solar cells and modules fell 7.8% year over year to €1.8 billion in 2025. It also reported that domestic solar-module production in the first three quarters of 2025 fell 60.6% year over year to 509,200 modules. The first figure is import value; the second is a unit count of domestic production. Neither by itself measures total supply, production capacity or individual brands’ market shares. How to compare panels for a German project
Without a reliable German brand league table, a useful comparison starts with the project’s needs. Ask the installer to explain how each proposed module fits the design and what the resulting system delivers.
- Roof or site constraints: Compare the available area, orientation, shading and structural limits with the proposed module dimensions and system layout.
- System configuration: Check that the modules work with the inverter and other system components, and that the design suits the intended use, including self-consumption or storage where relevant.
- Performance and efficiency: Compare the product specifications and expected system output on an equivalent basis. Fraunhofer ISE reports that commercial silicon module efficiency improved from about 17% to just under 25% over the past ten years in its 2026 report version; that industry-wide trend does not establish that one company’s product is best for a particular roof. - Warranty and supplier support: Review the actual product warranty terms and ask who handles claims and service in Germany. A manufacturer’s global scale alone does not establish the support available for a specific installation.
- Lifecycle and sustainability information: Ask what product and lifecycle information is available and compare it consistently across the options. Fraunhofer ISE’s report covers sustainability and lifecycle assessment as well as module and system technologies.
- Whole-system economics: Compare complete proposals, not just the panel price. Include the intended use of generated electricity and, where relevant, storage; self-consumption is one of the market drivers identified by Germany Trade & Invest.
Check the applicable EEG support rate for the installation
The Federal Network Agency publishes EEG support rates for solar installations. The applicable rate depends on the commissioning period, installed capacity and whether the system uses partial or full feed-in. Consult the Federal Network Agency’s current EEG support-rate table for the project’s circumstances rather than relying on a fixed rate quoted without those details.
