The two Western Australian Division One prizes reported as unclaimed in December 2023 were worth $3.5 million combined. Their claim periods have since elapsed, but the available official sources do not establish whether either prize was claimed or lapsed. Lotterywest confirmation is needed before either outcome can be reported.
What happened to the two WA Lotto prizes?
On 28 December 2023, Lotterywest said two Division One prizes had not yet been claimed: a $1 million Wednesday Lotto prize sold in Mirrabooka and a $2.5 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw prize sold in Maddington. The announcement described 81 WA Division One winners for 2023 as of that date; that is a historical figure, not a current tally. Lotterywest’s announcement named the retailers and said neither ticket was registered to a Lotterywest account, so it could not contact the owners directly.
| Prize | Draw and amount | Retailer | What is established about the claim period | Final claim status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mirrabooka | Wednesday Lotto, 29 March 2023; $1 million | Jackpot Lottery Centre, Mirrabooka | Lotterywest said in March 2024 that the prize was due to expire that month under its 12-month claim period. March 2024 update | Not established by the cited sources |
| Maddington | Saturday Lotto Superdraw, September 2023; $2.5 million | Good Fortune Lottery Centre, Maddington | Lotterywest’s general guidance allows 12 months from the draw date to claim, so the claim period elapsed in 2024. Lotterywest prize-claim guidance | Not established by the cited sources |
Lotterywest’s September 2023 Superdraw announcement identifies the Maddington ticket and its $2.5 million prize. The sources establish that both deadlines passed, not what happened afterward. They do not confirm that the winners came forward, that the prizes lapsed, or whether the prizes were later returned to the community.
Why Lotterywest could not contact the winners
Lotterywest spokesperson Emma Rogers said in the 28 December 2023 announcement: “Since neither of these tickets are registered to a Lotterywest account, we have no way of contacting the winners.” Registration would have given Lotterywest a direct way to contact account holders; the statement does not identify who bought either ticket or what eventually happened to it.

When Lotterywest followed up on the Mirrabooka ticket in March 2024, spokesperson James Mooney said: “The ticket was not registered to a Lotterywest membership, so we have no way to get a hold of the winner.” That update said the prize was due to expire that month, but it did not report the final outcome.
What happens when a WA Lotto prize goes unclaimed?
Lotterywest says unclaimed prizes are returned to the WA community through its grants program. That is its general policy; it is not confirmation that either of these particular prizes went unclaimed. Only Lotterywest can confirm whether a claim was made and, if not, the prize’s eventual disposition.

- Let's face it you don't want to give someone a winning scratch off ticket that shows they won a million dollars on it, you would probably lose friends and family if you did that. We heard your complaints and made our winning amounts 10k and 50k. That allows you to choose between the good, the bad, but not the ugly.
- Includes a total of 8 tickets. You will get 4 of the "Big Time Millions" design, and 4 of the "Jackpot Jubilee" design. The "Big time Millions" is a guaranteed $50,000 winner, the "Jackpot Jubilee" is a guaranteed $10,000 winner. In addition to those winning amounts, each ticket also wins an additional $30 for the top game.
- Each ticket measures 8 x 4 inches and includes 2 separate games per ticket. The back is very realistic but also has plenty of info telling them it's fake after they read the fine print, it's hidden enough to fool just about anyone. We didn't just phone in the back text either, the back alone is a crack up.
- Printed using HRP Technology (Hyper Realistic Printing). Some other tickets look ok on the front but once you see the back you can see how fake they look. Compare the front and especially the back of ours to anybody else's, you can see we went that extra mile on our design for both sides. Includes barcodes and scan codes just like the real thing. For the final touch we also added perforation on the top and bottom for that real lottery ticket feel
- Makes a great gift idea. Great for parties, social gathering, work / office parties, holidays, birthdays and any other special occasion. Also great for when you are just hanging out with friends.
