A Beijing court ordered Malaysia Airlines to pay 2.9 million yuan—about US$410,000—to each of eight families in cases tied to passengers who disappeared aboard MH370. The reported orders are not a blanket award to every passenger’s family. Separately, Malaysia has extended its seabed-search agreement with Ocean Infinity through 30 June 2027; the latest search phase did not confirm where the wreckage is.
How much will Malaysia Airlines pay each MH370 family?
The Associated Press reported that a Beijing court ordered Malaysia Airlines to pay 2.9 million yuan, approximately US$410,000, to each of eight families. The reported damages include compensation for the passenger’s death, funeral expenses and emotional distress. The passengers had been declared legally dead, but what happened to them remains unknown. The Associated Press report
The available report does not establish whether the orders have been appealed or when any payments will be made. It therefore would be premature to describe the money as already paid or the awards as final.
How many families are covered by the reported orders?
The reported court orders cover eight families, not every family of a passenger aboard MH370. AP said another 23 cases were pending, while families in 47 other cases had reached agreements with the airlines and withdrawn their suits. Those figures describe the cases AP reported; they do not establish a universal compensation entitlement or the status of every affected family. The Associated Press report

What happens next with the search agreement?
Malaysia extended its agreement with Ocean Infinity for 12 months, from 1 July 2026 through 30 June 2027, according to Bernama. The remaining search area is 7,428.54 square kilometres. The agreement keeps its no-find-no-fee arrangement: Malaysia pays nothing if the wreckage is not found; Ocean Infinity receives US$70 million if it is. Bernama
Bernama reported that operational assets are expected to be reassigned between November 2026 and April 2027, during the calm-sea season. That is the reported expected window, not confirmation that a search has already restarted or that operations will run continuously throughout it. Bernama
