The $1.6 million Saturday Lotto ticket sold at Malaga Newsagency was initially reported as unclaimed, but a follow-up report said a woman in her 50s from Perth’s northern suburbs later claimed the prize. The original warning to check tickets described the situation on 17 March 2025, not its eventual outcome.
What happened to the Malaga Lotto ticket?
PerthNow reported on 17 March 2025 that a Division One Saturday Lotto ticket sold at Malaga Newsagency was still unclaimed. In follow-up reporting, The West Australian said a woman in her 50s from Perth’s northern suburbs claimed the prize after seeing online that a ticket sold in Malaga had won and checking her numbers.
The winner was not identified in the available report. She was quoted as saying: “I saw online that a ticket sold in Malaga had won and thought I better check my numbers.”
What was the prize and what details were reported?
The coverage described the prize as $1.6 million. That is a rounded figure; the reports do not establish a more precise amount. The original PerthNow article also did not give the exact draw date, draw number, winning numbers or claim deadline.

What did Lotterywest say?
Lotterywest spokesperson James Mooney said the win was Malaga Newsagency’s second recent Division One prize sale. He also said that, as of 17 March 2025, the win brought Western Australia to 16 Division One wins for the year so far. That was a dated tally, not a current total.
Mooney described the win as: “another Malaga millionaire created, thanks to this store.”

Why did the original headline urge people to check?
When PerthNow published its report on 17 March 2025, the ticket had not yet been claimed. The follow-up account shows that the initial unclaimed status changed after the winner checked her ticket. The original warning is therefore useful as a record of what readers were told at that time, but it should not be read as the ticket’s present status.
