IndiaMART is a business-to-business marketplace, not a guarantee that every supplier or transaction is safe. The platform advertises seller verification and payment protection for eligible Trustseal sellers, but those labels alone do not establish that a product will meet specifications, arrive on time, or qualify for a refund. There are individual complaints about non-delivery and disputes, but they do not show that IndiaMART is a “scammer playground” or measure how common fraud is.

What IndiaMART’s safety features do—and don’t—tell you

IndiaMART describes its app as a way for buyers and sellers to connect. Its listing advertises “Know Your Seller” verification and “Payment Protection” for payments to Trustseal sellers. Those are the platform’s own feature descriptions, not a universal promise of product quality, delivery, or a refund. Before relying on either feature, check the current terms, eligibility, exclusions, and payment route for your particular order. IndiaMART’s app listing

A company investor document hosted by the NSE describes controls including mobile-number verification by one-time password, fraud detection for marketplace misuse, secure protocols for online payments, and procedures for complaints about infringing, illegal, counterfeit, or fictitious listings. It says possible actions may include delisting a listing, arranging supplier reimbursement to a buyer, closing a storefront, or notifying authorities. The document describes company processes; it does not establish how often those remedies succeed or provide a current fraud rate. IndiaMART investor document hosted by NSE

Do complaints mean IndiaMART is full of scammers?

Trustpilot and ConsumerComplaints.in pages include individual accounts alleging non-delivery, failed refunds, and dissatisfaction with dispute handling or seller badges. They can alert you to the kinds of problems some buyers say they experienced, but the pages are not representative samples and do not independently establish each allegation. They cannot show that most IndiaMART suppliers are fraudulent or that every complaint is accurate. Trustpilot reviews of IndiaMART; ConsumerComplaints.in complaints about IndiaMART

The sources reviewed do not establish a platform-wide rate for fraud, non-delivery, unresolved complaints, or successful buyer reimbursements. Without those outcome figures, it is not possible to infer the odds that a particular IndiaMART order will go wrong.

How to assess an IndiaMART supplier before paying

Check three separate things: the supplier’s identity and business record; the payment route and written protection terms; and the evidence for what will be delivered and how disputes will be handled. A reassuring signal in one area does not settle the others.

  1. Verify the business independently. Check its identity, business history, and contact details, and look for feedback from other buyers. India’s National Consumer Helpline recommends researching unfamiliar sellers and checking other buyers’ reviews. National Consumer Helpline safe-shopping FAQ
  2. Get the order terms in writing. Ask for a quotation or pro forma invoice that names the legal seller and specifies the exact goods, specifications, quantity, delivery terms, and cancellation or refund terms. Do not assume a listing or chat message covers every detail.
  3. Confirm what protection applies. If the seller is marked Trustseal, check whether this specific order and payment qualify for the advertised protection. Establish who receives the money and read the applicable terms. Do not assume a badge protects a payment made outside the covered route.
  4. Choose a payment method with buyer protection. The National Consumer Helpline advises using a payment method that offers meaningful protection. Be cautious about paying an unrelated personal account unless you have independently verified why it is being used.
  5. Limit exposure on a first order. For a consequential purchase from an unfamiliar supplier, consider a small sample or trial order before committing to a large advance. This reduces the amount at risk but cannot guarantee a safe transaction.
  6. Keep a complete record. Save the listing, messages, invoice, payment confirmation, shipping documents, and any complaint ticket. If a dispute arises, contact IndiaMART through its current official support channel and use your payment provider’s dispute process.

When to pause or walk away

  • The supplier’s business identity, address, or contact details cannot be independently checked.
  • The seller will not put the product specifications, delivery obligations, or cancellation terms in writing.
  • You cannot establish who will receive the payment or whether the payment route qualifies for the protection being advertised.
  • You are being pressed to send a large advance before you can verify the seller and order details.
