UK esports organization Into The Breach (ITB) announced on January 27, 2025, that it would wind down after an investigation found company funds had been used for personal purposes. Subsequent reporting identified its CEO and founder, Sam Macedonio Cook, who was reported to have accepted responsibility and admitted taking around £600,000 in director’s loans at incorrect times and without due process. That figure is a reported admission, not an audited total of ITB’s losses.
Why did Into The Breach shut down?
ITB said its investigation found that a person entrusted with financial and monetary decisions had been using company funds for personal purposes. The organization said the situation left it in an “unsustainable position,” according to its statement as reproduced in contemporary reporting.
ITB’s initial announcement did not name the person. Later coverage identified Cook after he accepted responsibility. Keeping those accounts distinct matters: the first was the organization’s announcement about its investigation; the later identification and account of the loans came from reporting on Cook’s admission.
What did the CEO admit, and what does £600,000 mean?
Esports News UK reported Cook as saying: “I took around £600,000 in director’s loans, but at incorrect times and without due process.” The amount describes the loans Cook was reported as admitting to; it should not be treated as an independently audited calculation of total losses or as a court finding. A director’s loan is money a company lends to a director, rather than salary or a dividend. In this case, the reported concern was not simply that loans existed: Cook’s reported admission referred to taking them at improper times and without due process.
Were ITB staff, players, and partners paid?
Contemporary reporting described potential amounts owed to staff, players, and partners, but the available coverage does not establish the final repayment position.

Those were time-specific expectations reported around the wind-down, not confirmation that every claim was eventually paid. The cited coverage also does not establish a final legal or insolvency outcome.
