Recruit Holdings, the parent company of Indeed and Glassdoor, announced in July 2025 that it planned to cut around 1,300 jobs across the two platforms. Reuters reported that the reductions would amount to about 6% of Recruit’s HR technology segment workforce. The announcement was part of a plan to integrate Glassdoor operations into Indeed; it was not a 2026 layoff announcement.

How many jobs did Indeed and Glassdoor plan to cut?

Recruit planned around 1,300 cuts, according to a July 10, 2025 Reuters report republished by Investing.com. Reuters said the cuts were mostly in the United States and would affect research and development, growth, and people and sustainability teams. The reductions spanned all functions and several countries.

The figure describes planned reductions, not a verified count of completed departures. Reuters said the company memo it reviewed put Recruit’s HR technology business unit at 20,000 employees at the time; the reported 6% figure refers to that segment’s workforce.

Why were Indeed and Glassdoor cutting jobs?

Recruit did not provide a specific reason for the layoffs in the Reuters report. CEO Hisayuki “Deko” Idekoba said the company needed to adapt its products as AI changes the world, saying: “AI is changing the world, and we must adapt by ensuring our product delivers truly great experiences for job seekers and employers”. That statement described product priorities; Reuters did not report it as the formal explanation for the job cuts.

Were Indeed and Glassdoor being merged?

Recruit said it would integrate Glassdoor operations into Indeed. The report does not establish that the Glassdoor brand, every product, or user-facing services would disappear, so “integration” is more precise than saying the two platforms were fully merged or that Glassdoor was shut down.

What leadership changes did the announcement include?

Reuters reported that Glassdoor CEO Christian Sutherland-Wong was expected to leave effective October 1, 2025. Indeed people and sustainability chief LaFawn Davis was expected to step down effective September 1, 2025, with Recruit COO Ayano Senaha succeeding her. These were reported intended effective dates, not confirmation in that report that the transitions later occurred.

How did the cuts compare with Recruit’s earlier plans?

The July 2025 report placed the announcement in the context of earlier reductions Recruit had announced in its HR technology business. These are figures as reported by Reuters in 2025, not a cumulative total of verified job losses.

Announcement Planned reductions Reported share
2023 About 2,200 job cuts 15% of staff, as described in Reuters’ 2025 report
2024 1,000 position eliminations Not stated in Reuters’ 2025 report
July 2025 Around 1,300 job cuts across Indeed and Glassdoor About 6% of the HR technology segment workforce

Reuters’ July 10, 2025 report, republished by Investing.com, attributed the announcement details to a company memo seen by Reuters. It did not establish how many planned reductions were ultimately completed or the later status of the integration and leadership changes.
