Indian fintech Jar reported operating revenue of ₹208 crore for the fiscal year ended March 2025 and said it was profitable in the January–March and April–June 2025 quarters. Its reported total revenue was much higher—about ₹2,450 crore—because the company says vertical integration led it to book gross gold sales as a principal. That total is not the same as operating revenue, service fees, or profit.
What Jar reported about revenue and profit
Business Standard reported in September 2025 that Jar’s operating revenue rose ninefold to ₹208 crore in FY25, the fiscal year ended March 2025. The same report put total revenue at about ₹2,450 crore and attributed the gap to a change in how Jar handled gold transactions after vertically integrating its operations. These are reported company figures, not independently verified audited results in the available reporting.
Jar co-founder and CEO Nishchay AG told Business Standard that the company was fully profitable in the quarters January–March 2025 and April–June 2025. The claim applies to those two quarters; it does not establish that Jar was profitable in every quarter or throughout FY25.
Why total revenue is much larger than operating revenue
According to Business Standard, Jar moved from acting as an intermediary toward acting as principal in its gold operations. It then booked the gross value of gold sold to customers in total revenue. That presentation helps explain why reported total revenue was about ₹2,450 crore while operating revenue was ₹208 crore. The larger figure should not be read as Jar’s service revenue, its take from each transaction, or its profit.

How the figures compare with FY24
Infomance reported that Jar had ₹49 crore in revenue from operations and a net loss of ₹103.97 crore in FY24, citing consolidated company statements filed with the Registrar of Companies. Those figures give a prior-year comparison, but the FY25 report’s ninefold growth refers specifically to operating revenue; total revenue after the change in gold accounting is a different measure.
How Jar says its gold-saving product works
Jar’s website describes an app for saving in 24K digital gold. Its stated recurring minimums are ₹10 daily, ₹50 weekly, or ₹100 monthly; it also offers instant saving. The company’s privacy policy says the platform facilitates buying, selling, and transferring digital gold backed by bullion and coins. The policy names Changejar Technologies Private Limited and Jar Gold Retail Private Limited as operators of the companies behind the service.

A digital-gold balance represents a claim recorded through the service, not jewellery or coins in the user’s direct possession. Jar’s description of gold backing does not by itself establish investment returns, guaranteed safety, or a particular level of customer protection. The sources cited here do not establish those outcomes.
What Jar’s user numbers do—and do not—show
Business Standard reported that Jar had 35 million registered users since inception, across 12,000 pin codes, citing CEO Nishchay AG. Jar’s website separately advertises 40 million-plus Indians. Both are company-reported reach figures with different descriptions and publication dates; neither source establishes how many people actively save, how much they save, or how many remain customers.

AG described the company’s rationale this way: “Gold remains the primary savings instrument across India, and our platform reflects that reality.” This is the CEO’s view of the product’s fit with Indian saving habits, not an independently established statistic about household savings.
How does Jar make money?
Jar’s model centers on facilitating digital-gold purchases, sales, and transfers. The available reporting says vertical integration changed its role in gold transactions and led it to record gross gold sold as principal. That helps account for the scale of total revenue, but the cited sources do not specify Jar’s per-transaction margin, fee schedule, or the precise contribution of each revenue stream to profit.

Is Jar profitable?
According to Business Standard’s September 2025 report, Jar said it was fully profitable in the January–March and April–June 2025 quarters. That is a company-reported milestone, and the sources cited here do not include audited FY25 accounts that would independently verify the reported figures. The FY24 net loss figure reported by Infomance was ₹103.97 crore.
