Ravi Kumar S, formerly president of Infosys, became Cognizant’s CEO and a member of its board on January 12, 2023. The appointment took effect immediately. His stated aim to “unlock” Cognizant’s potential was an ambition, not a claim that results had already been achieved.
Who became Cognizant’s CEO?
Cognizant appointed Ravi Kumar S to succeed Brian Humphries as CEO and board member. The company announced the change on January 12, 2023, and said it was effective immediately. Humphries was to remain with Cognizant as a special advisor until March 15, 2023. Cognizant’s appointment announcement described the move as part of an initiative to accelerate growth.
What did Kumar mean by “unlock” Cognizant’s potential?
In the announcement, Kumar said: “Cognizant is well-positioned for growth, and I’m excited to unlock the Company’s significant potential for our employees, clients, investors, and other stakeholders.” The wording expressed his outlook on the company’s opportunity and his intended focus. It does not establish that growth followed or quantify any outcome.
What was Kumar’s experience at Infosys?
Kumar spent 20 years at Infosys and served as its president from January 2016 through October 2022, according to Cognizant’s release and a Cognizant SEC filing. At Infosys, he led the Global Services Organization across industry segments and service lines.
Cognizant characterized Kumar as having more than 20 years of experience in technology consulting, including transformation programs, developing new practice lines, and creating business models. Those descriptions are the company’s account of his background.
Why did Brian Humphries leave the CEO role?
The appointment announcement does not give a reason for Humphries’s departure. CRN reported on January 12, 2023, that the reason was not immediately clear at the time; that contemporaneous report does not establish whether an explanation was disclosed later. CRN’s report covered the same leadership transition.

As of October 8, 2026, Cognizant’s leadership biography lists Ravi Kumar S as CEO and says he was appointed in January 2023. The appointment was announced in 2023, not as a new change in 2026.
