Feadship’s fleet record identifies Pi as hull 818, built in 2019. The yacht launched as SYZYGY 818; the same record lists Kaizen as a previous name and Pi as its current name. Feadship’s technical record establishes the vessel’s specifications and history, but not its present beneficial owner.

These are the shipyard’s published figures, not independent performance measurements. Feadship credits naval architecture to Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, exterior design to Jamsen, and interior design to Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design. It lists Pi as 2020 Motor Yacht of the Year and as winner of its best displacement motor yacht award in the 1,500–1,999 gross-tonnage category. Feadship’s fleet record for Pi is the primary source for these details.
What is documented about the yacht’s design?
An unusually extensive glass exterior
The clearest distinctive feature in the public record is Pi’s all-glass envelope. Feadship says the large clear panels curve both vertically and horizontally, with each panel shaped to a unique mathematical form. The builder also says the glass contributes to the yacht’s watertight integrity; this is not simply a decorative window treatment.

What “inside” can—and cannot—be established
Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design is credited with the interiors, but the available cited sources do not provide a room-by-room account, verified interior photographs with descriptions, or a firsthand visit. The Royal Gazette reported a glass-bottomed swimming pool and a “touch and go” helicopter pad; ITV also mentioned a helipad, pool, and spa. Those are press reports, not details confirmed in Feadship’s fleet specifications. It would be misleading to present them as a comprehensive or independently verified interior inventory.

Why does the yacht have several names?
Feadship announced on July 12, 2019, that Project 818 would be called SYZYGY 818. The company explained that “syzygy” refers to the alignment of three heavenly bodies and that 818 held significance for the commissioning owner. Feadship’s current fleet entry gives Pi as the current name, with Kaizen as a previous name as well as SYZYGY 818 as the launch name. The builder’s announcement explains the original naming, not when or why the later names changed. Feadship’s 2019 announcement records the launch name.
Is Howard Schultz the owner?
News reports have identified Howard Schultz as Pi’s owner. The Royal Gazette’s 2021 report said the yacht was originally built for financier Robert Friedland and later identified Schultz as owner. It did not give a transaction date or sale terms, and Feadship’s official fleet page does not certify current ownership. The careful conclusion is that Schultz has been reported as the owner; the cited public record does not establish a verified chain of title or confirm present beneficial ownership. How much is Pi worth?
There is no official appraisal or documented transaction price in the cited sources. The figures below are media estimates published at different times and in different currencies, not directly comparable valuations.

Because these reports do not provide a common appraisal method, a verified sale, or a confirmed current valuation, the $145 million headline figure should be read as one published estimate—not as Pi’s established market value. A separate yacht-information page gives a much higher estimate but also lists specifications that conflict with Feadship’s official record, so it is not a sound basis for settling the question.

Why do reported guest and crew numbers differ?
Feadship lists accommodation for 10 guests and 20 crew. The Royal Gazette reported capacity for 12 passengers and a crew of 18. These figures use different terms—“guests” and “passengers”—and may reflect different conventions or reporting, but the available sources do not reconcile them. For the yacht’s published specification, Feadship’s own fleet record is the clearest reference.
