What is inside Nordstrom’s NYC flagship?
The flagship occupies seven levels: two below street level and five above. Nordstrom’s 2019 opening announcement put the store at 320,000 square feet. This is the women’s and children’s store, not the separate Nordstrom men’s location across the street.
The store’s layout brings together clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty and children’s goods, with food and beverage options also part of the experience. Nordstrom’s current floor directory places home, baby and children’s goods and toys on Lower Level 2; women’s shoes on Lower Level 1; and accessories, beauty, jewelry, handbags, sunglasses and watches on Level 1. Designer handbags, shoes and fine jewelry are on Level 2; designer clothing and SPACE on Level 3; women’s clothing on Level 4; and activewear, swimwear, coats, dresses, lingerie and sleepwear on Level 5. Floor assignments can change, so check the current store directory before visiting.
How does the building connect the store to the street?
Nordstrom credited James Carpenter Design Associates with designing the glass façade as a waveform. The retailer said the shifting glass forms were intended to bring natural light into the store and create views between the interior and the street. The 2016 design announcement also described a seven-level atrium with escalators. These are the architect’s and retailer’s stated design intentions, not an independent assessment of how the building performs.

Nordstrom described the retail plan at opening as open and flexible, allowing the store’s curation to evolve over time. The concept is that the flagship should feel connected to its surroundings while still functioning as a large department store.
Which digital tools did Nordstrom announce at launch?
The 2019 opening announcement highlighted four beauty-related digital experiences:

Nordstrom also announced connected fitting rooms, digital directories and phone-charging stations. A GeekWire reporter who visited in December 2019 described wayfinding maps, charging stations, personalization, the Stylist Lounge, Trunk Club space and an automated QR-code returns kiosk. These reports establish what was announced or observed at launch; they do not establish that every tool is still installed or working today.
How did online orders connect to in-store services?
At launch, Nordstrom presented Express Services as a way to connect online shopping with the physical store. The opening announcement included online-order pickup and try-ons, alterations, same-day delivery to eligible addresses, 24/7 pickup, and tailoring that could include express alterations in 30–60 minutes. It also described cobbler services and personalized digital style boards. Those are launch-era claims, not a guarantee of current availability, turnaround time or eligibility.

In a December 2019 account, GeekWire reporter Taylor Soper said he ordered two shirts online and found them ready for pickup the next day. That is one dated visit, not a promise of next-day readiness. The same article reported 85,000 visits during opening weekend; that figure was attributed to GeekWire’s reporting rather than presented as a Nordstrom-issued metric.
Nordstrom’s current New York page advertises pickup and returns, alterations and styling help. For current options, hours and service details, use the Nordstrom NYC Flagship page rather than relying on the 2019 service announcement.
What can visitors currently plan for?
Nordstrom’s current New York page lists the flagship at 225 West 57th Street, New York, NY 10019. It currently lists hours of Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Hours and service listings can change; check the live page before setting out.
The page advertises pickup and returns, alterations, styling, Beauty Haven and restaurants, as well as clothing, shoes, accessories, beauty, kids’ wear and home goods. Beauty Haven is currently described as an interactive floor offering wellness, hair, nail and brow services, beauty tools and additional services. Nordstrom’s 2019 opening announcement named a wider set of treatments, but current providers and appointment availability should be checked through booking information rather than assumed from the original launch list.

The 2019 announcement named seven food and beverage options: Wolf, Jeannie’s, Hani Pacific, Oh Mochi!, Bistro Verde, Shoe Bar and Broadway Bar. Nordstrom’s current page promotes restaurants and bars, including Wolf; check the store page for current venue details instead of assuming every launch-era operator remains open.

The store is a useful example of digital tools supporting discovery and trying products, while physical services handle pickup, fitting, returns and alterations. Its architecture was also designed to make the store visible and connected to the street. The available facts describe the opening announcement, a reporter’s 2019 visit and Nordstrom’s current store listings; they do not show that the specific technology caused sales growth or improved customer satisfaction.
For context, GeekWire reported that Nordstrom’s digital sales grew 7 percent in the third quarter of 2019 and represented 34 percent of company business, compared with 31 percent a year earlier. These were companywide results, not results for the NYC flagship, and do not establish that the store’s features caused the change.
