Can you make money on OnlyFans without stripping? In a short 2024 experiment, WIRED writer Andrew Rummer created a nonsexual page, promoted it to his professional networks and earned nothing over a couple of weeks. His result is one person’s brief trial—not a forecast for every creator—but it shows why a paywall alone does not make an audience appear or persuade people to pay.
What happened when Andrew Rummer tried wholesome OnlyFans
Rummer’s WIRED feature, published October 19, 2024, followed him as he tried to sell nonsexual content. He posted an introduction, a video reading Three Men in a Boat and a sailing update, then promoted his page on X and LinkedIn. He says the initial promotion brought one follower; after he posted more, he had five.
He also offered a paid video of PR advice for $5. Nobody paid to view it, and Rummer reports that his total earnings after a couple of weeks were zero. That is the outcome of one short experiment, not evidence that nonsexual creators cannot earn on OnlyFans.
Why the page struggled to find and convert subscribers
Discovery depended on promotion elsewhere
WIRED described OnlyFans search as limited to posts from creators a user already follows, without a recommendation feed for finding new creators. The feature reported that an OnlyFans spokesperson called this limitation a deliberate safety feature. For Rummer, that meant posting on OnlyFans was not enough to bring in strangers; he relied on X and LinkedIn to direct people to the page.

Interest did not automatically become a subscription
Even people curious about his professional advice faced the extra step of creating an OnlyFans account. One prospective subscriber, a PR professional, told WIRED: “I’m super curious about the contents of the video but also do not want to give OF my personal data and sign up for an account.”
There was also a perception problem. A former newsroom colleague told WIRED: “I think your potential subscribers will be afraid they will be seen as consumers of the other thing that platform offers and who only use you as a human shield.” In other words, a creator can offer entirely SFW material and still have prospective customers associate the platform with adult content. Concerns about how an OnlyFans payment might appear on a card statement may also put people off.

What nonsexual creators offered—and what their stories show
Rummer’s feature described SFW creators using several formats: comedian John Hastings and comedian Nate Craig offered comedy; musician Dudley Alexander, who releases music as Nevrmind, offered music and personalized messages; and professional golfer Liam O’Neill offered golf-swing advice through direct messages.
Alexander said he offered fans a personalized birthday song for $35 and that fans preferred buying items individually to his earlier $4.99 monthly subscription experiment. Craig told WIRED he had earned less than $100 from fans over roughly one or two years on the platform; he also described a separate paid filming arrangement with OnlyFans. These are individual accounts, not typical earnings or guarantees. Hastings described a mismatch between the audience he wanted and some messages he received: “On OnlyFans however, he still has people who slide into his DMs just to say ‘I want to see your feet, I’m not here for jokes.’”

The examples show that SFW creators can package comedy, music, personalized content or advice for sale. They do not show that a particular format reliably sells. Rummer’s unsold $5 PR video is a reminder that a clear offer and a payment mechanism still need an audience willing to subscribe and buy.

Large platform totals do not reveal how earnings are distributed among creators. WIRED did not provide an independently sourced creator-income distribution in the feature, so its figures cannot establish typical earnings for an SFW account. Treat the account counts and financial amounts above as historical 2024 reporting, not current platform statistics.
Prices and fees in the feature are historical, not current terms
For the period it covered, WIRED described monthly subscriptions ranging from $4.99 to $50, paid individual posts priced up to $100, and paid messaging. The feature reported that OnlyFans took a 20% cut at the time. Those are 2024-reported terms, not verified current prices or fees. Anyone considering the platform should check its current creator terms and pricing rules before setting a price or estimating take-home income.
The platform’s payment options can support recurring subscriptions or individual purchases, but they do not resolve the central business questions: whether prospective customers can find the page, whether they want the offer, and whether they are comfortable signing up and paying there. The anecdotes in WIRED illustrate different ways creators tried to monetize; they do not establish which model will work for a new account.

- Do not treat the page itself as a marketing channel. In the feature’s description of discovery, creators depended on audiences and promotion outside OnlyFans to bring in potential subscribers.

- Check current terms before forecasting revenue. The 2024 feature’s fee and pricing details may have changed, and gross sales are not the same as creator earnings.
