The ITPro Today 2024 IT Salary Survey summary reports median total compensation of $130,000, up from $125,000 in 2023. At the same time, fewer respondents said they were satisfied with their compensation, and reported access to several benefits fell. These are survey findings relayed in a 2024 secondary summary—not universal pay rates or current 2026 benchmarks.

What the 2024 survey says about IT compensation

According to figures from the ITPro Today report reproduced by ADMIN Magazine on June 26, 2024, median total compensation was $130,000 in 2024, compared with $125,000 in 2023. The reported difference is $5,000, or 4% of the 2023 figure.

The summary does not explain how the report defined total compensation, whether all respondents’ compensation components were treated consistently, or whether results were weighted. The figure is therefore best read as the report’s stated median, not as a reliable offer benchmark for an individual job or a measure of what every IT worker earns.

The summary also says base compensation barely offset a 3.4% inflation rate in 2023. That inflation figure is cited in the summary as context; it is not an inflation calculation produced by the salary survey. A nominal increase in compensation does not by itself establish that workers gained purchasing power.

Average salary figures by job title

The summary lists average salaries for 11 job-title groups. These are averages reported for survey respondents, not controlled comparisons: the accessible material does not break them down by location, experience, employer, or seniority.

Role listed in the summary Average salary reported
CIO/CTO $313,581
CEO/president/owner $246,478
IT director $150,861
Engineer/systems engineer $148,819
Software/web developer $144,810
IT consultant/SI/VAR $138,855
IT manager $131,170
Systems analyst/systems admin $101,171
IT staff $92,006
Technical staff $87,978
IT operations $86,486

The gap between the highest and lowest figures is descriptive only. The available summary does not show that job title alone explains it, or that the groups are comparable in scope, experience, or other pay-related factors. Use the figures as context for the survey, not as a substitute for salary data matched to a specific role and location.

Reported compensation satisfaction and benefits

The same summary reports that 39% of respondents were satisfied with their total compensation, down from 50% the previous year. This is a measure of respondent sentiment, not a population estimate established by the accessible material.

Survey finding relayed in 2024 Reported result Comparison stated in the summary
Satisfied with total compensation 39% 50% in the previous year
Received health insurance 68% Down 9% from 2023, as phrased in the summary
Reported a 401(k) savings match 56% Decrease of 10%, as phrased in the summary
Reported daycare or daycare subsidies 3% 4% in the previous year

The summary’s statements that health insurance fell “9%” and the 401(k) match fell “10%” do not make clear in the displayed material whether those changes are percentage points or relative percentage declines. They should not be converted into either interpretation without the original report’s definitions.

Overall, the summary presents a mixed picture: the reported median total compensation rose year over year, while satisfaction and several reported benefits declined. It does not establish that one change caused another. Nor does the accessible information show whether respondents could select multiple benefits, how benefit availability was defined, or how the results compare across employers.

How much confidence to place in the figures

The detailed figures available here come from ADMIN Magazine’s June 2024 summary of ITPro Today’s survey report, rather than an accessible full report and methodology. ITPro Today’s research library lists the report as a downloadable resource with request and details controls, but the listing itself does not provide the survey’s complete findings.

  • The sample size, recruitment method, field dates, respondent geography, weighting, and exact question wording are not verified in the accessible material.
  • The summary does not provide enough detail to establish that respondents represent all IT professionals or the broader labor market.
  • Median total compensation and average salary by job title are different measures; they should not be compared as if they describe the same statistic.
  • Year-over-year comparisons are informative only to the extent that the underlying respondent groups, definitions, and methods were consistent, details not established in the accessible material.

Accordingly, the report is useful as a snapshot of what its respondents reported and as a prompt to consider benefits alongside salary. It cannot, on the available evidence, establish a current market rate or predict what an individual should earn.
