What the IOCL 2024 notice covered
Advertisement No. IOCL/MKTG/APPR/2024-25 invited applications for 400 provisional apprentice seats in the Marketing Division’s Southern Region. The locations covered Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. The listed apprenticeship period was 12 months. Read the official advertisement.
Disciplines and qualifications
The notice listed trade apprentice disciplines including fitter, electrician, electronic mechanic, instrument mechanic, and machinist. Technician disciplines included mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, civil, electrical and electronics, and electronics. Graduate apprentice places were listed for BBA, BA, B.Com, and B.Sc.
Available disciplines, seat allocation, and qualifications differed by state and role. The 400-seat total does not mean every discipline was available in every location, and no single qualification applied to all applicants. Application dates and how candidates applied
The notice was dated July 31, 2024. Online applications opened August 2, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. and closed August 19, 2024, at 11:55 p.m. Applications were accepted online through the link on IOCL’s apprenticeships website; that window has passed.
The notice directed candidates to register on the relevant apprenticeship portal as well as submit the IOCL application:
- ITI trade apprentice candidates: register on Apprenticeship India.
- Diploma/technician and graduate apprentice candidates: register on NATS.
Candidates could apply under only one discipline code. The application required scanned documents, including proof of date of birth, the applicable educational certificates, category certificates where relevant, a signature, and a recent photograph. The notice warned that missing required uploads could result in rejection.
Eligibility depended on the specific role
Applicants needed to match the prescribed qualification for their chosen discipline. The notice’s examples include a relevant regular full-time two-year ITI qualification for trade roles, a relevant three-year engineering diploma for technician roles, and a regular full-time degree for graduate roles. For many diploma and degree roles, minimum marks applied, with different thresholds for reserved categories.

These are not interchangeable, universal eligibility rules: check the notice’s exact discipline and category requirements before relying on any particular qualification or age condition.
Selection stages and employment after training
Selection was based on an online test and eligibility assessment, followed by document verification and pre-engagement medical fitness. IOCL said test details would be communicated by email or SMS and instructed candidates to monitor its official page for updates.
Completing the apprenticeship did not guarantee a job at IOCL. The advertisement states that the Corporation has “NO obligation to offer employment” after the apprenticeship and that an apprentice cannot claim a right to employment on the grounds of completing it.
