Metropolis Fremantle shut for a two-week renovation and relaunched on June 15, 2024. As of October 8, 2026, the venue’s official website lists club nights, events and bookings at 58 South Terrace, Fremantle.
Why did Metros Fremantle close?
The closure was for renovations, not a publicly announced permanent shutdown. An early social-media video left some patrons unsure whether the venue was closing for good. PerthNow reported on June 12, 2024, that Metropolis Fremantle had temporarily closed for major renovations, after operating as Metros since 1991.
NightOwl Entertainment described the project as a transformation into a “world-class super club.” The company said in 2024 that the venue had operated in Fremantle for 32 years and announced a relaunch for June 15. The 32-year figure was the company’s statement at the time, not a current count.
What changed during the renovation?
PerthNow’s June 15, 2024 report described rebuilt downstairs bars, two new booth seating areas, a retro room, replaced flooring and a lighting installation. The renovation announcement had also listed new bars, booths, seating, dancefloors, secret rooms and a six-metre aerial installation.

The reopening involved more than interior work: staff were being trained on a new cocktail menu, and the venue had developed a stage show to complement DJ sets. These were features reported around the 2024 relaunch, not a guarantee of the current program.
When did Metropolis Fremantle reopen?
NightOwl’s head of marketing strategy, Nik Thompson, told PerthNow that the venue had been closed for two weeks for renovations and would reopen with a launch event on June 15, 2024. The relaunch date was announced by NightOwl and covered by PerthNow; it was not a later reopening after a permanent shutdown.

The explanation publicly given was renovation and reinvestment in the club experience. The cited reporting does not establish that the 2024 closure resulted from insolvency, regulatory action, a sale or a permanent shutdown. Those explanations should not be inferred from the temporary closure announcement.
