Who was the mystery Reading FC bidder?
City A.M. identified the former bidder as Paul Taylor in a report published on 14 August 2026. The report said Taylor had submitted a proposal to buy Reading in July 2024 and withdrawn it in November 2024. City A.M.’s report
What happened to Taylor’s bid?
In August 2024, Taylor attempted to demonstrate funding with documents purporting to show a bond portfolio worth around €200 million (£171 million), according to the Financial Conduct Authority findings as reported by City A.M. The 2026 report said the documents were forged and had been used as proof of funds for the Reading bid. City A.M.’s account of the bond documents
City A.M. also reported that the FCA fined Taylor almost half a million pounds and banned him from financial services. The report’s wording gives an approximate fine; it should not be treated as an exact figure. The FCA’s Therese Chambers, joint executive director of enforcement and market oversight, said: “Trust in financial services relies on those working in it to be honest. Mr Taylor and Ms Toni fell woefully short of even this minimum expectation.” FCA statement quoted by City A.M.

Was Taylor the unnamed buyer mentioned in April 2025?
The available reports do not establish that he was. On 22 April 2025, Reading said it had agreed terms with a buyer but that the buyer’s identity had to remain confidential; the EFL also extended the club’s divestment deadline to 5 May. That announcement concerned a separate point in the timeline from Taylor’s 2024 offer. BBC Sport’s report on Reading’s 22 April statement
Reading announced a sale in principle to Redwood Holdings Limited on 3 May 2025. The announcement does not identify Taylor as the confidential buyer from April, and the available sources do not connect him to that buyer. Reading’s sale-in-principle announcement

Who ultimately bought Reading FC?
Redwood Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, acquired Reading. Dogwood is owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. The EFL-ratified acquisition was completed on 14 May 2025 and covered the club, Select Car Leasing Stadium and Bearwood Park training ground. EFL-ratified acquisition details
