You can change the primary bank account linked to an eligible Zerodha account online through Zerodha’s account page or Console, then verify the change with Aadhaar eSign and an OTP. If your account type or Aadhaar-linked contact details do not support online processing, Zerodha requires an offline application with case-specific bank proof.
First check whether you need to change the primary or a secondary account
Your primary bank account is used for deposits and withdrawals. Zerodha allows one primary and up to two secondary bank accounts, for a maximum of three linked accounts. PayTM Payments Bank cannot be linked. See Zerodha’s account-limit guidance.
If the bank account you want is already listed as secondary, you can promote it instead of adding it again. Otherwise, use the primary-account change process below.
Change the primary bank account online
From the Zerodha account page
- Sign in at account.zerodha.com.
- Open Bank accounts, select the menu beside the existing account, and choose Edit.
- Choose UPI verification or manual entry, then follow the prompts to provide the new bank details.
- Complete Aadhaar eSign using the OTP sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
Zerodha says UPI verification uses a ₹1 test payment. If that verification fails, enter the details manually. Non-individual accounts can use manual entry only. The exact steps are on Zerodha’s primary-bank change page.

From Console
- Sign in to Console and go to Account → Bank → Modify bank account.
- Enter the new account number and IFSC, accept the terms, and complete Aadhaar eSign with the OTP.
Promote a linked secondary account to primary
If the bank account you want is already linked as secondary, use Console’s Set as primary option and complete eSign. Once the interchange is processed, the old primary becomes secondary. While the change is processing, withdrawal requests go to the old primary account. See Zerodha’s instructions for converting a secondary account.
When you need to apply offline
Zerodha lists offline processing for specified account types and contact-detail situations. These include individual accounts whose mobile number or email is not linked to Aadhaar; individuals linking a proprietorship bank account; joint Zerodha accounts; NRE and NRO-PIS accounts; and some HUF, corporate, partnership, LLP, AOP, or trust accounts when the authorised signatory does not have Aadhaar-linked contact details. Requirements differ by case, so check the current official instructions before preparing or mailing documents.

Bank proof and mailing
Depending on your case, Zerodha lists a personalised cancelled cheque showing the account-holder’s name, a self-attested bank statement with IFSC and MICR visible, or a self-attested passbook as bank proof. The listed proprietorship case also requires a banker’s letter. Sign documents to match the signature on your Zerodha account.

Fees and processing time
Zerodha’s undated support page lists a charge of ₹25 plus 18% GST for changing the primary bank account, and says it will link the new account within 72 working hours and send a confirmation email. That is a published estimate, not a guaranteed completion time. Check the support page for current terms.
For comparison, Zerodha’s undated support guidance says changing a secondary bank account is free and has a 48-working-hour processing estimate: secondary-bank account instructions.
