To move cryptocurrency from your Coinbase balance into your consumer Vault, use Coinbase.com: open My Assets, select the asset, choose Vault and Deposit, then enter the amount under From Account and select Continue. Coinbase says the completed transfer appears in the Vault instantly. This internal transfer is not supported in the Coinbase mobile app.
Transfer crypto from your Coinbase balance on the website
- Sign in at Coinbase.com.
- Open My Assets and select the cryptocurrency you want to move.
- Select Vault, then Deposit.
- Choose the From Account tab and enter the amount of that cryptocurrency to deposit.
- Review the amount, then select Continue to confirm.
- After the transfer completes, check the Vault balance. Coinbase says it appears there instantly.
Coinbase’s documented steps are for its consumer website. If your account displays different labels, look for the Vault and deposit controls for the asset you selected. Coinbase does not provide a universal interface or version guide.
Why you cannot make this transfer in the mobile app
Coinbase says moving funds from your Coinbase balance into a Vault is not supported in the mobile app. Its mobile Vault instructions cover accessing and sharing a receive address, which is a different way to fund the Vault.
Choose the right funding method
Coinbase describes two ways to add cryptocurrency to a consumer Vault. They move funds from different sources and should not be confused:

Coinbase says a Vault can store any cryptocurrency it supports, but that does not establish that every asset is available to every user or in every region at all times. Check the specific asset and Vault options shown in your account.
Deposits, withdrawals, fees, and staking are different
- Withdrawal safeguards do not delay a deposit. Coinbase’s separate withdrawal guidance describes an approval process and a 48-hour waiting stage. Those controls apply to withdrawals out of a Vault, not to funding it from a Coinbase balance.
- Vault storage is free. Coinbase says it does not charge a storage fee.
- Vault balances cannot be staked. Coinbase says cryptocurrency in a Vault cannot be staked to earn rewards; staking must use the primary balance.
Consumer Coinbase Vault is not Coinbase Prime
This guide covers the consumer Vault within a Coinbase account. Coinbase Prime has a separate institutional portfolio workflow for moving funds from a trading balance to a Vault balance. Prime’s process can involve a physical security key and additional consensus approvals, so those instructions do not apply to the consumer Coinbase.com transfer.
