Fees and features are not universal, and the exchange’s reserve disclosures are useful but do not guarantee solvency, uninterrupted access to funds, or protection from crypto losses.
What is OKX, and is it available where you live?
OKX is a crypto exchange brand operating through region-specific entities and offerings. Before comparing coins or fees, confirm the legal entity serving your country and the services it may provide there. OKX says products and services can be unavailable in some jurisdictions, and a feature offered on its international platform should not be assumed to be available to every customer.
European Economic Area
OKX Europe says OKX Europe Limited is authorized by Malta’s MFSA as a Crypto-Asset Service Provider under MiCA and serves EEA customers through that entity. That is OKX’s description of its regional setup; check the entity and permissions applicable in your own country rather than assuming the same terms apply throughout Europe.
United States
OKX’s risk disclosures state that its centralized exchange services outside OKX US are unavailable in the United States. The disclosures say OKX US offers spot trading and buy, sell, and convert services, with some products and coins restricted by state. The stated U.S. service description is dated June 2, 2025; check current availability for your state before opening an account. Do not assume that international derivatives or the full global product range are available to U.S. residents.

What are OKX’s spot trading fees?
There is no single rate that applies to every OKX customer. Fees can depend on region, fee tier, product, and whether the account has opened an X-Perps account. The following is a dated EEA example for regular clients with spot-only accounts, not a global fee schedule.

OKX’s September 11, 2026 EEA notice says asset thresholds are measured at account level and trading volume is measured over the previous 30 days. OKX’s fee FAQ says a customer’s tier may depend on account assets or 30-day trading volume, and that the fee schedule also depends on whether the account has opened X-Perps. The relevant volume is on the OKX account and product market, not trading on another exchange. Check the live schedule for your account and region before placing a trade.

Maker versus taker
An order that rests on the order book and adds liquidity is generally charged the maker rate. An order that fills immediately against existing orders is generally charged the taker rate. Whether an order is maker or taker depends on how it executes, not simply on whether you use a limit or market order.
Look beyond the headline commission
OKX’s cost explainer identifies order-book spread and on-chain network charges for withdrawals as costs that may apply in addition to trading fees. A convert route advertised with no explicit fee should not be assumed to match an order-book trade’s execution price: compare the quote with the final amount you would receive.

Does OKX publish proof of reserves?
Yes. OKX’s global Proof of Reserves page surfaces its 47th report, dated September 2026, as showing $27.4 billion in primary assets. OKX’s report article says it maintained reserve ratios above 100% for 22 frequently traded assets. The asset-level ratios below are figures reported by OKX, not a guarantee about future conditions.

OKX describes its report as a snapshot and says third-party custody balances are held by third-party custodians. The company also says it publishes monthly reserve reports and gives users ways to verify their own inclusion. Under the method described by OKX, reserve proof can help customers compare reported on-chain assets with reported account liabilities at the snapshot date.

A reserve snapshot is one piece of evidence, not a complete assessment of an exchange. It does not by itself establish every aspect of operational security, the quality or liquidity of every asset, future solvency, or continuous access to funds. It also cannot protect a customer from a fall in the market value of crypto. The cited figures are OKX’s reported figures; they should not be described as an independent audit unless the report establishes that characterization and scope.

No exchange can be described as risk-free on the basis of a reserve report or a security-page summary. OKX’s security page describes account protections, platform security, and self-custody options. Those are company descriptions, not results of an independent security test conducted for this review. Using a centralized exchange also means relying on the relevant entity and its systems to hold and process assets; reserve reporting does not remove that counterparty or operational risk.

Exchange custody and self-custody are different choices
With exchange custody, the platform controls the private keys associated with assets held in the account. OKX separately offers a self-custody wallet, where the customer controls the keys and is responsible for safeguarding recovery material. A hardware wallet is an optional way to hold keys for people who choose self-custody; it is not required to use OKX’s exchange. Self-custody changes who bears the responsibility for key loss or exposure rather than eliminating risk.
How to judge whether OKX fits your needs
Compare the service available to you—not a global headline about the brand—with the alternatives you can actually use. These checks are especially important if you trade frequently, need a particular asset, or plan to withdraw to your own wallet.
- Eligibility and features: Confirm the serving entity, local restrictions, supported assets, and whether the product you want is available in your country or state.
- Effective fees: Check your actual maker and taker rates, fee tier, product market, fee asset, and any special pair group in your account.
- Total transaction cost: Include spread, the price offered by a fiat funding or conversion route, and the network charge for an on-chain withdrawal—not only the trading commission.
- Markets and execution: Check the assets and pairs available to your account and whether their liquidity and execution meet your needs. Listings and trading conditions need not be identical across regions.
- Custody and evidence: Decide whether you are comfortable with exchange custody or prefer self-custody, and assess reserve reporting by its scope and snapshot date alongside the account controls and risks that matter to you.
