The right route depends on your eligibility and whether you can consistently create original public content or offer paying followers an ongoing benefit. X’s announced transition away from Creator Revenue Sharing has passed its stated dates, so check Creator Studio → Monetization for the programs currently available to your account.
How do you make money on X (Twitter)?
There are two main ways to earn directly through X’s creator tools: Original Content Rewards, which rewards qualifying original content based on eligible impressions, and Subscriptions, which charge followers for recurring access to bonus content and perks. Sponsorships and affiliate commissions are separate business arrangements; they are not the same as X paying you through its creator programs.
X announced that new enrollments in Creator Revenue Sharing ended August 7, 2026, and that the program would close September 7, 2026. It also said existing members would receive a rollout to apply for Original Content Rewards beginning September 8, 2026. Those dates have passed; consult the live page and the Monetization area of Creator Studio to confirm your account’s current status and options.
Step 1: Check eligibility for Original Content Rewards
X’s listed requirements for Original Content Rewards include all of the following:
#1 Best Overall
- You are at least 18 and live in an eligible country.
- You have a personal or business account in good standing and an active Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business subscription.
- Your account has at least 500,000 verified-user Home Timeline impressions in the previous 90 days, excluding replies, and at least 500 verified followers.
- You actively post original content.
These are application thresholds, not an approval guarantee. X also says the impressions that count are qualified impressions from Premium users in the Home Timeline, with at least half of the post visible. A general view or impression total is not necessarily the qualifying total. Check the current requirements and your eligibility in Creator Studio.
Step 2: Publish original work consistently
Original Content Rewards is intended for content that reflects your own voice, expertise, or creativity. X says eligible material can include posts, Articles, video, and images. Reposting other people’s work alone is not a sound basis for eligibility; build a recognizable body of work that is genuinely yours.

Step 3: Apply and set up payment
- Open Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards and check whether your account is eligible to apply.
- Follow the application and payout setup shown for your location. X’s help page says U.S. users use X Money; users outside the U.S. connect Stripe and complete verification.
- Review the current payout terms. The page states a $30 minimum payout and biweekly payments when program requirements continue to be met.
Payment setup and program rules can change, so use the instructions shown in your own account rather than relying on an old walkthrough.
Step 4: Consider Creator Subscriptions separately
Subscriptions are a different model from impression-based rewards: followers pay recurring fees for exclusive content, previews, and other perks. X describes them as a way to earn recurring income from loyal followers. This route works best when you can explain a specific benefit subscribers will receive and deliver it reliably.
Subscription eligibility
X’s current policy lists requirements including at least 2,000 active followers with Premium subscriptions, 5 million organic impressions in the previous three months, a post within the last 30 days, Premium, age 18 or older, an account old enough to qualify, required profile and security settings, and identity verification. X does not guarantee acceptance even when the listed criteria are met. See the current and for details.
Set a clear paid benefit and understand receipts
Creators choose a monthly price from the price points X makes available. Before setting one, define what subscribers get—such as exclusive posts or early previews—and what cadence you can sustain. X says earnings depend on subscriber count and chosen price; processing costs, app-store fees, cancellations, and refunds can affect what you receive. Its help page says creators may earn up to approximately 97% of gross subscription revenue, subject to those factors. That is a stated ceiling, not a guaranteed take-home share or an income forecast. Review and for current terms.

Which X monetization route fits?
| Factor | Original Content Rewards | Creator Subscriptions |
|---|---|---|
| How money is generated | Rewards tied to qualified impressions from Premium users in the Home Timeline. | Recurring payments from followers who subscribe. |
| Audience requirements | 500 verified followers and 500,000 qualifying verified-user Home Timeline impressions in 90 days, plus other requirements. | 2,000 active followers with Premium subscriptions and 5 million organic impressions over three months, plus other requirements. |
| What you must provide | Actively published original content in a format such as posts, Articles, video, or images. | An ongoing subscriber benefit, such as exclusive content, previews, or other perks. |
| Payment setup | X says U.S. users use X Money; non-U.S. users connect Stripe and complete verification. The page states a $30 minimum and biweekly payments while requirements are met. | Subscribers pay the monthly price you select from X’s available price points. Fees, cancellations, and refunds can affect receipts. |
| Reliance on platform rules | Eligibility and qualifying impressions depend on X’s program rules. | Eligibility, available price points, and payment terms depend on X’s subscription rules. |
Neither route comes with an evidence-backed typical income figure or a fixed rate per view. Choose based on your audience, the kind of content you can sustain, and the current terms—not an assumed payout.

Brand deals and affiliate links can create income outside X’s direct rewards and subscriptions. X’s Paid Partnerships Policy treats compensation, gifts, affiliate commissions, discount codes, and ambassador arrangements as paid partnerships. Clearly identify qualifying promotions and check both applicable law and X’s current and.
Best Value
Keep this income separate from platform payouts when planning: it depends on the partner arrangement and any resulting sales or other agreed terms, not simply on meeting an X creator-program threshold.
How many followers do you need to make money on X?
For Original Content Rewards, X lists 500 verified followers as one application threshold, along with 500,000 qualifying impressions in 90 days and other requirements. For Subscriptions, its policy lists 2,000 active followers with Premium subscriptions and 5 million organic impressions in three months, as well as additional criteria. Neither threshold means you will be accepted or earn a particular amount.
Does X pay creators for posts?
X’s Original Content Rewards program is the current direct-reward route described in its help materials, but it is not a guaranteed payment for every post or every impression. Eligibility, the type of impression, and continued compliance with program requirements matter. Creator Revenue Sharing is not the route to recommend to new applicants: X announced that enrollment ended and the program was being retired in 2026.
Quick Recap
What to check before counting on creator income
- Confirm the program is available to your account and country in Creator Studio.
- Distinguish qualifying impressions from total views, and check the applicable time window.
- Read the current payout, verification, fee, refund, and policy terms before setting an income target.
- Do not treat eligibility numbers or X’s subscription revenue ceiling as a prediction of earnings.
- Disclose sponsorships and affiliate promotions in line with applicable law and platform policy.
