What were Romeu’s reported Southampton wages?
There are two reported estimates for his Southampton spells, and neither is a club-confirmed salary. SalaryLeaks lists £45,000 per week for his first Southampton spell in 2015 and £23,000 gross per week for his 2025/26 return. The annualized amounts below are rough equivalents, not confirmed yearly earnings.

The figures are not a verified like-for-like comparison. Southampton’s announcements establish when Romeu joined and left, but do not disclose his wage, net pay or bonuses. SalaryLeaks also cautions that its figures are estimates and historical coverage may be incomplete. The available information does not establish that he earned any listed bonuses, so they should not be added to an earnings total.
Why was the return described as a £0 move?
The £0 referred to the transfer fee, not Romeu’s pay. Southampton announced on 6 November 2025 that he had rejoined on a contract through the end of the season. A free transfer does not mean a player works without wages; it means no transfer fee was paid to acquire him. The club’s announcement confirmed the contract timeline, not its financial terms.

The return followed seven years in Romeu’s first spell, during which Southampton says he made 256 appearances. In the club’s announcement, Romeu said: “The fact that I’m coming back probably speaks by itself.” That comment was about his return, not his wages.
When did Romeu leave Southampton again?
Southampton’s retained-list announcement, published on 12 June 2026, said Romeu would leave at the end of June. It recorded seven appearances for him in 2025/26 and 263 appearances overall for the club. The Football Association’s 2025/26 agent transactions record lists a new Southampton registration for Oriol Romeu Vidal, corroborating the registration but not his pay.

What the wage estimates do—and do not—show
- They are estimates, not disclosed contract figures. Southampton’s cited announcements do not confirm either weekly wage.
- The annual figures are annualized equivalents. They are not proof of the amount Romeu actually received in a particular season.
- They are not take-home pay. No net-pay figure is established, and the sources do not support calculating his total career earnings at Southampton.
