Jordan and Jacki Christman balance two agricultural businesses by keeping their distinct roles, coordinating around the seasons, and relying on each other and extended family when work overlaps. Why the Christmans keep separate roles
Jordan grew up farming with his father and grandfather in Adams County, North Dakota. Jacki grew up on the Price Ranch in Harding County, South Dakota, riding horses and raising cattle and sheep. The December 2, 2024, Successful Farming profile describes Jordan as a fifth-generation farmer and Jacki as a fourth-generation rancher.
They married in 2010 and continued with the work each knew: Jordan manages crop farming, while Jacki runs cattle. That division does not mean the operations are isolated. They help one another as needed, and Jacki sometimes drives a tractor or combine. As she put it, “He does it because he loves it. I do it because I love him.”

At the time of the 2024 profile, Jordan farmed about 12,500 acres and grew spring wheat, corn, canola, and soybeans. The family’s crop mix had changed over the years: Jordan recalled that it had once been roughly 90% spring wheat and 10% sunflowers. The profile reported that Jordan employed two full-time workers, with his father, an uncle, and part-time workers joining during harvest. He has been Adams County’s top wheat producer multiple times, according to the article. He prefers to operate equipment himself and has no desire to grow so large that his role becomes primarily managing people, handling paperwork, and buying machinery for others to run. Those acreage, staffing, and crop details describe the operation as reported in 2024, not verified current figures.
How cattle work and planting season are scheduled
Jacki started her herd with ten bred heifers her parents gave her at college graduation. She brought them north, bought additional cattle from her family, and built the herd to 50 before it later reached 325 black Angus. The 2024 profile reported 325 head and quoted Jacki calling that a manageable number for the family’s corrals and barns.

Calving takes place in March and April, ending before Jordan’s spring planting begins. That timing gives the couple a practical handoff between seasonal peaks: Jacki’s intensive calving period is winding down as Jordan’s planting work ramps up. Jordan also sometimes helps move cattle on horseback.
The profile notes a difference between the family’s two agricultural settings, without suggesting it applies uniformly across either county. Why help from family matters
The Christmans’ workload is supported by a reciprocal arrangement with Jacki’s family. Jordan and Jacki put up hay for themselves and for Jacki’s parents and brother, and they help on the family ranch when needed. Jacki’s parents, in turn, help with the Christman children and other tasks. The support is practical: it moves labor where it is needed and helps the couple manage responsibilities on both operations.
How the children take part
Their children, Citti, Cahan, and Conway, are learning both crop farming and ranching. They also have school and 4-H activities, so family life includes commitments beyond the businesses. The 2024 article says Jordan and Jacki hope the children may join the operation someday. That is an aspiration, not a settled succession plan.

Why Jacki shares farm life online
Jacki began posting farm photos and videos in 2019 to keep friends and family updated. A local television story helped her reach a wider audience, and she began using the page to explain agricultural work and answer questions about where food comes from. In a 2019 KFYR report, she said, “I take pictures every day,” and described hoping the effort would help agriculture more broadly.
By the December 2024 Successful Farming profile, the family reported more than 110,000 Facebook followers and a most-viewed video with over 12 million views. Those are dated metrics, not a statement of the page’s current reach. Jacki said she tries to explain why the family does things, adding that people may think agriculture is all large corporations when many operations are family-run.

What the family hopes to do next
Jordan said he would like to keep buying land he farms and keep machinery and technology current. The couple also hopes to involve their children in the business in the future. These are goals they described in the 2024 profile; the article does not establish a specific timeline or a decided succession arrangement.
