There is no reliable like-for-like figure for the personal fortunes of Wrexham’s owners and Chelsea’s Todd Boehly. A 2026 media estimate puts Ryan Reynolds’ wealth at around £300 million, but the sources reviewed do not establish a comparable figure for co-owner Rob McElhenney—or for Boehly. The widely reported valuations of Wrexham and Chelsea are values of the clubs, not their owners’ personal net worth.
How rich are Wrexham’s owners compared with Todd Boehly?
The clearest available personal-wealth figure is an estimate for Reynolds alone: FourFourTwo put his wealth at around £300 million in its 2026 football rich list. That is a media estimate, not a disclosed balance sheet. The sources available do not provide a comparably reliable current estimate for McElhenney (also known as Rob Mac) or Boehly, so it is not possible to rank all three owners precisely or calculate a meaningful wealth multiple. FourFourTwo’s 2026 list also applies an eligibility threshold: people must have at least 25% ownership of a club or another active role in football.
Keep the club figures separate from personal wealth. BBC Sport reported Wrexham’s valuation at about £350 million in U.S. reports before Apollo’s investment; that is a reported club valuation, not a confirmed sale price or the owners’ combined net worth. Forbes lists Chelsea at $4.2 billion (£3.1 billion) in enterprise value, calculated using exchange rates on May 14, 2026. Forbes defines enterprise value as equity plus net debt, so it is not Boehly’s fortune. (BBC Sport on Wrexham’s finances; Forbes’ Chelsea valuation.)
What the available figures do—and don’t—measure
| Comparison | Wrexham | Chelsea |
|---|---|---|
| Personal wealth estimate | Ryan Reynolds: around £300 million, FourFourTwo’s 2026 media estimate. No comparable figure for Rob McElhenney is established in the sources cited. | No comparable current personal-wealth estimate for Todd Boehly is established in the sources cited. |
| Club valuation | About £350 million, as reported in U.S. reports before Apollo’s investment, according to BBC Sport. It is a reported club valuation, not owner net worth. | $4.2 billion (£3.1 billion) enterprise value, Forbes, using May 14, 2026 exchange rates. Forbes defines this as equity plus net debt. |
| Ownership and control | Reynolds and McElhenney completed the takeover in February 2021 after an initial £2 million investment in the club. | Forbes lists Boehly and Clearlake Capital as controlling shareholders. Chelsea’s statement described Clearlake as majority owner since 2022 and said it intended to move to full control as Boehly left the chairmanship; this is a dated transition, not a timeless ownership description. |
| Commercial resources | BBC Sport points to commercial deals including United Airlines and HP as important to the club’s resources. | The sources cited here do not give a directly comparable revenue or commercial-resource figure. |

Why Wrexham’s valuation is not the owners’ fortune
Reynolds and McElhenney took control of Wrexham in February 2021 after an initial £2 million investment. That amount describes money invested in the club; it does not establish how wealthy either owner was then or is now. Likewise, a rise in the club’s reported valuation does not mean the owners’ personal wealth rose by the same amount. A club’s value is not cash in an owner’s pocket, and the sources do not establish what the owners could realize from a sale.
Wrexham’s finances also reflect the club’s commercial profile and sporting progress. BBC Sport reported that the club’s 2025 promotion made it the first team to secure three successive promotions in the English Football League. Its account describes owner investment as helping Wrexham move out of the National League and commercial income, including deals with United Airlines and HP, as supporting later spending. Those details explain the club’s growing resources, not the owners’ personal net worth. The club’s chief executive, Michael Williamson, described Wrexham as having “a global brand, a Premier League brand in the Championship” in an August 2025 podcast interview reported by BBC Sport.

Reynolds and McElhenney have also described the purchase as emotional as well as financial. In an Associated Press interview, McElhenney recalled the reaction as “It was more like, ‘Don’t.’” Reynolds added, “Run away, yeah.” Their remarks give context to the decision to invest, but say nothing conclusive about either man’s current wealth. (Associated Press interview; BBC Sport on Wrexham’s transformation.)
How to interpret Chelsea’s $4.2 billion figure
Forbes’ $4.2 billion figure is Chelsea’s enterprise value, not a claim that Boehly personally owns or is worth that amount. Enterprise value includes equity plus net debt. Forbes names Boehly and Clearlake Capital as controlling shareholders, but that does not make the club’s entire valuation an estimate of Boehly’s personal assets. Forbes’ team valuation page gives the club figure and its basis.

Ownership descriptions are also date-sensitive. Chelsea’s official statement said Clearlake had been the majority owner since 2022, that Boehly was leaving the chairmanship, and that Clearlake intended to move to full control. Forbes separately lists Boehly and Clearlake as controlling shareholders. These sources describe an ownership transition; they do not support treating a single, static ownership arrangement as a permanent fact. Check the latest club statement for any change after the dated announcement. (Chelsea’s ownership announcement.)

Private-company holdings, debt, liquidity and changing valuations make a person’s wealth difficult to calculate from public information. Forbes’ 2026 methodology says its estimates can use comparable-company ratios and liquidity discounts for private businesses, among other assumptions. That helps explain why a published estimate should be treated as an estimate rather than a verified account balance. Forbes dates its 2026 Forbes 400 estimates to September 4, 2026; that methodology does not supply a directly comparable current net-worth figure for all three men in this comparison.
