What does a basic Lake Camanche fishing trip cost?
EBMUD’s 2026 Recreation Use Fees schedule, effective January 1, 2026, lists a $8.25 daily fishing access permit per angler. Vehicle entry costs $13 on off-season days and peak-season weekdays, and $21.50 on peak-season weekends and holidays. The totals below are arithmetic from those separate scheduled fees, not separate prices published by EBMUD.

These figures cover EBMUD access charges only. A California state fishing license is a separate requirement for anglers age 16 and older; its price is not included in the EBMUD fee schedule figures shown here. Optional costs can include bait, tackle, meals, and other trip expenses. EBMUD’s Camanche Reservoir page says fishing poles can be rented and bait and tackle are available at the marinas.
Why two EBMUD pages show different daily fishing fees
EBMUD’s live Camanche page displays a daily fishing access fee of $7.75 per angler, while its linked 2026 Recreation Use Fees schedule, effective January 1, 2026, lists $8.25. Because the dated schedule is the controlling published 2026 fee document, use $8.25 when budgeting from the 2026 schedule. The discrepancy remains on EBMUD’s web pages, so verify the current amount with EBMUD before traveling.

How much does it cost to fish with a boat?
The 2026 schedule lists combined daily car-and-boat entry of $18.75 on off-season days and peak-season weekdays, or $25 on peak-season weekends and holidays. The fishing permit remains an additional $8.25 per angler. If one angler is covered by that permit, the combined EBMUD charges are $27 on a lower-rate day and $33.25 on a peak-season weekend or holiday.
The schedule also has separate boat-launch fee lines: $13 on off-season days and peak-season weekdays, and $18.50 on peak-season weekends and holidays. Do not add the separate launch figure to the combined car-and-boat category without confirming which fee category applies to your vehicle and boat. Annual launch passes are separate from fishing access permits.

Check whether outside-boat launching is open
EBMUD’s 2026 outside-vessel boating season at Camanche South Shore ended October 1, 2026. During the stated season, launching was open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and required vessel screening, inspection, and quarantine procedures. After October 1, do not assume you can launch a trailered boat; check EBMUD’s current operating information before making the trip. Shore fishing, camping, and rentals are listed separately from public boat launching.
Do you need both a Camanche permit and a California license?
Yes. EBMUD requires its local fishing access permit, and its Camanche page says anglers age 16 and older need a California state fishing license. The EBMUD fee schedule covers the local access charge, not the state license price.

The schedule allows up to four accompanied children age 15 or younger to fish under the access permit and possession limit of an accompanying adult who has a valid California fishing license and daily access permit. More than four children, or children without such an accompanying adult, need their own EBMUD access permits. EBMUD says no fishing access permit is required on California’s two annual free fishing days; check state rules for license requirements and other limits.
Can an annual permit save money?
The 2026 schedule lists an annual fishing access permit for $170, compared with $8.25 for a daily permit. On fishing access alone, the annual permit costs the equivalent of about 21 daily permits: 20 daily permits total $165, while 21 total $173.25. This comparison does not include vehicle entry, which is a separate charge, or the California license.

What other trip costs should you plan for?
- State fishing license: Required by EBMUD for anglers age 16 and older; the price is not stated in the cited EBMUD fee schedule.
- Bait and tackle: Optional. EBMUD says marinas offer bait and tackle, and fishing poles can be rented. California State Parks also lists fishing tackle sales at the North Shore facility.
- Vehicle or boat access: Depends on the date and the applicable fee category; confirm the current schedule and launch status if bringing a boat.
- Other trip spending: Meals, fuel, and any additional services are outside the listed fishing-permit and entry totals.
EBMUD says it stocks more than 50,000 pounds of trout each year between October and June. The reservoir page does not state a publication year for that figure.
