A Florida resident pays $17 for an annual freshwater fishing license or $79 for a five-year license. A nonresident pays $47 for an annual license, $17 for three days, or $30 for seven days. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) prices include an issuance fee, but a license vendor may add 50¢. Fees checked October 8, 2026; confirm the current total before buying.

Florida freshwater fishing license prices

These are the prices listed by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) for the license options below. They cover freshwater fishing only unless the option says otherwise.

License option Listed price Validity or included privileges
Florida resident annual freshwater $17 Annual freshwater fishing
Florida resident five-year freshwater $79 Five years of freshwater fishing
Nonresident annual freshwater $47 Annual freshwater fishing
Nonresident three-day freshwater $17 Three days of freshwater fishing
Nonresident seven-day freshwater $30 Seven days of freshwater fishing

Which license should you choose?

If you are a Florida resident

The $17 annual license is the basic option for freshwater fishing. The $79 five-year license may suit someone who expects to fish in Florida over several years; it costs less than five annual licenses at the listed rate, before any vendor charges.

If you are visiting Florida

Choose between the three-day, seven-day, and annual nonresident licenses based on how long you need coverage. An out-of-state fishing license does not authorize you to fish in Florida.

If you want more than freshwater fishing

FWC also lists resident combinations and sportsman’s licenses. These cost more because they include additional privileges; they are not required if you only need freshwater fishing:

Do you need a Florida fishing license?

In general, Florida residents and visitors age 16 or older need a Florida license to attempt to take fish, including when practicing catch-and-release. Common exemptions

FWC examples include youth under 16; Florida residents age 65 or older who can prove age or residency; certain qualifying home-county or homestead situations; fishing in specified private fish ponds; and fishing on designated license-free freshwater days. A Florida resident may also qualify when fishing for noncommercial purposes in their home county with live or natural bait and a pole or line without a fishing-line-retrieval mechanism. Conditions apply to these exemptions; check FWC’s current rules for your specific situation.

What counts as Florida residency?

For fishing and hunting licenses, FWC generally considers a person a Florida resident if they have declared Florida as their only state of residence, with residency evidenced by a Florida driver license or ID showing a Florida address and verified by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Active-duty U.S. military personnel stationed in Florida, and their spouses and dependent children living in the household, are also included under FWC’s definition.
