Gillingham reported £6.77 million in whole-club staff costs for 2024/25, equal to 89.8% of its £7.53 million revenue. That was the second-highest staff-cost figure among eight League Two clubs with comparable 2024/25 figures, behind Bristol Rovers. It is not a complete league-wide ranking, and the accounts do not isolate first-team player wages.
What was Gillingham’s wage bill in 2024/25?
SalarySport’s compilation of Gillingham Football Club Ltd’s filed accounts records £6,765,924 in staff costs and £7,530,515 in revenue for the year ended 30 June 2025. The resulting staff-cost-to-revenue ratio was 89.8%, up from 79.9% in 2023/24. Staff costs rose from £6,571,271 in 2023/24 to £6,765,924 in 2024/25, an increase of about 3.0%.
These are whole-club figures, not a first-team wage total. SalarySport says staff costs include players, coaches, academy staff and ground staff. Its separate individual-player wage estimates are not the accounts-based figure and should not be substituted for it. See SalarySport’s Gillingham finances and accounts.

The table compares reported staff costs from the same financial year, not player-only salaries or playing budgets. The ratio column measures costs against each club’s revenue; it is not a direct measure of squad strength, sporting ambition or financial health. SalarySport’s comparison page lists staff-cost figures for 10 of the 17 clubs whose accounts it covers, and only eight of those figures are for 2024/25. It therefore cannot establish a ranking across all 24 League Two clubs. See SalarySport’s League Two club finances and accounts.
What do the figures mean for the Ainsworth era?
Gillingham announced Gareth Ainsworth’s appointment as first-team manager on 25 March 2025, saying he would take charge immediately under an agreement running to the end of the 2026/27 season. The accounts period ended on 30 June 2025, just over three months later. As a result, the £6.77 million figure covers only a short portion of Ainsworth’s tenure and cannot be treated as a full-season measure of costs under his management. The club’s appointment announcement said: “The Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Gareth Ainsworth as our new First-Team Manager.”
