To trade in a console at GameStop, look up the exact model for an estimate, prepare the console and its required parts, then take it to a participating store for inspection. The online amount is provisional: GameStop decides eligibility, condition, and final value in store. If accepted, you may be offered cash or store credit, with amounts that can differ.
1. Look up the exact console and check the estimate
Use GameStop’s trade-in value search to find the precise console listing, including its model or variant. GameStop says the program covers select products at select participating U.S. and Guam locations, and that the highest value depends on good condition and the required components being present.
Treat the displayed value as a short-lived estimate, not a guaranteed offer. A GameStop PS5 listing generated October 7, 2026, showed estimates of up to $310 in regular store credit or $217 in regular cash, and up to $341 in Pro store credit or $238.70 in Pro cash. That listing expired at the end of that business day; it is an example of how quotes are presented, not a current standing price. Check the live listing just before visiting.
When a listing gives multiple amounts, compare the payment type and any membership category shown. The PS5 listing’s 10% extra in-store-credit language applied to games and accessories, not systems or consumer electronics, so it should not be assumed to increase a console offer.

2. Gather the console and its required parts
GameStop’s console trade-in FAQ says to bring the original controller supplied with the console, its power cable, HDMI cable, and other cords or chargers originally included. Missing parts can reduce the value, and critical missing components may result in rejection.
The original box, printed manual, paper inserts, and promotional materials are not required. If an included cable or charger is missing, bringing the correct compatible item may help satisfy the component checklist, but it does not guarantee acceptance or a particular value.

3. Remove personal data and prepare the device
Before handing over the console, delete personal or sensitive images and stored data, and remove memory cards and items that were not originally part of the product. GameStop’s trade-in instructions advise customers to clear personal data; its terms disclaim responsibility for data left on a traded device.
Charge the console or device and bring its related cords and chargers, as the listing instructions advise. Confirm that you have removed any removable storage you want to keep.

4. Take it to a participating store
Bring the console, required components, and your saved trade summary to a participating GameStop store while the estimate is still valid. The cited trade page describes select products and select stores in the United States and Guam. The specific PS5 listing also described its offer as valid in select stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Guam, so check the terms for the particular offer rather than assuming every location participates.
The cited listing directs customers to present the saved summary in store; it does not establish that a console trade can be completed online.

5. Review the final offer before agreeing
At the store, GameStop inspects the console and determines its condition and value. Its trade-in terms state, “Product condition and trade value are determined by us in our sole discretion.” The store’s decision, not the online estimate, determines the final offer.
Confirm the amount and whether it is cash or store credit before completing the transaction. The same terms state, “All trades are final,” and say GameStop may change or suspend the program. Do not proceed unless the final terms work for you.
