That is a forecast schedule with delivery slots subject to confirmation—not a guaranteed count of firm orders awaiting delivery. It covers Group operations, including Jetstar, QantasLink and Freight, not just Qantas’s mainline fleet.
What does Qantas’s delivery schedule show?
Qantas Group’s August 2026 fleet update sets out this profile:

The schedule’s footnotes exclude wet-lease operations and mid-life aircraft acquisitions. Qantas also separately reported that it took delivery of 17 new aircraft during FY26; those deliveries should not be counted as aircraft still pending.
Does “up to 48” mean 48 firm orders?
No. The August 2026 update presents a target delivery profile and says slots and aircraft are subject to confirmation. It is more accurate to call 48 the maximum shown in the published FY27–FY28 schedule than to describe it as a confirmed order book. The update does not establish that all 48 are firm orders with fixed delivery dates.

Qantas says it is still discussing options and orders beyond the listed schedule. Its FY26 Annual Report says it is working with Airbus and Boeing on firming up additional A350 and 787 orders to replace retiring aircraft and support growth. The August update also describes discussions about exercising options for A380 and A330 replacements and growth. These discussions and options are not extra confirmed aircraft to add to the scheduled 48.
Which parts of Qantas Group are included?
The figure is for Qantas Group, not Qantas Airways alone. The schedule includes aircraft for Qantas, QantasLink, Freight and Jetstar. The FY26 Annual Report gives the Group fleet as 372 aircraft at 30 June 2026, covering Qantas Airways, Jetstar Australia and New Zealand, Qantas Freight and QantasLink. That fleet snapshot excludes Jetstar Japan aircraft and capacity-hire aircraft. The 372 in-service fleet and the forecast deliveries are different measures.

What aircraft timing details need careful reading?
Project Sunrise A350-1000ULRs
The FY26 Annual Report says five Project Sunrise A350-1000ULRs are expected by November 2027. The August 2026 delivery schedule lists three A350-1000ULRs in FY27 and four in FY28. Those source statements give different counts and periods; they should not be combined to claim that all seven in the schedule will arrive by November 2027.
Jetstar A321XLR
The August update plans the first Jetstar A321XLR for FY2029, outside the FY27–FY28 total above.

Fleet replacements
The FY26 Annual Report says Qantas plans to begin retiring A330s from calendar 2026 and A380s from calendar 2028. It links additional aircraft discussions to replacing retiring aircraft and meeting growth needs. Calendar-year retirement plans are not delivery commitments, and aircraft still being discussed should not be counted as confirmed scheduled deliveries.

Qantas’s FY26 Annual Report also forecasts up to US$4.6 billion in pre-delivery and final delivery payments across FY26–FY28. That is a payment forecast, not a count of aircraft.
