Hello Games has not published a current, verified lifetime sales total for No Man’s Sky across all platforms in the sources reviewed. A third-party model estimates 9.4 million to 18.9 million copies sold on Steam alone, using Steam review counts and a multiplier—not confirmed sales data.
Is there an official total for No Man’s Sky sales?
No all-platform unit total is stated in the official press kit or Hello Games’ company history. The studio describes No Man’s Sky as “one of the biggest selling new IPs in video games,” but gives no number. That is an official qualitative description, not a disclosed sales figure.

The press kit identifies the game’s August 2016 release and lists supported platforms, but it does not report cumulative sales. The available sources therefore do not establish a current lifetime total across platforms or a breakdown by physical and digital purchases, region, refunds, or subscription access.
What is the Steam sales estimate?
Steam Page Analyzer estimates 9,435,660 to 18,871,320 Steam copies. Its page, read September 16, 2026, reports 314,522 Steam reviews and applies a range of 30–60 copies per review using the Boxleiter method. The site notes that the actual figure may fall outside its estimate. See its estimate and methodology.

This is a broad, review-derived estimate, not a Valve or Hello Games sales report. It cannot be treated as the game’s verified all-platform lifetime sales total, and it should not be added to other platform estimates unless their dates and methods are independently established and compatible.
Why player counts and updates do not answer the sales question
Hello Games said on September 8, 2025, that No Man’s Sky reached its highest player counts since launch after the Voyagers update. That reports player activity, not copies sold. One person can play on more than one platform, and a player-count measure does not establish how many paid copies were purchased. Hello Games’ announcement does not give a sales total.

In an August 10, 2026 anniversary post, Hello Games founder Sean Murray said the game had received “almost 40 major free updates” over ten years. That history helps explain the game’s longevity, but it is not a unit-sales statistic. Read the anniversary post.
