Here’s How Much the Original Tesla Roadster Is Worth in 2026

Recent U.S. guide and auction figures suggest many original Tesla Roadsters are worth in the mid-$40,000s to upper-$50,000s, with substantial variation by condition, battery, records and configuration.

In the U.S., a first-generation Tesla Roadster in ordinary condition is generally worth somewhere in the mid-$40,000s to upper-$50,000s based on recent guide and auction evidence. That is a starting range, not a guaranteed sale price: a specific car’s condition, battery and upgrade status, mileage, records, and title history can move its value substantially.

What is an original Tesla Roadster worth?

Hagerty’s July 2026 estimate for a 2010 Roadster in #3 Good condition was $44,233–$57,267. Recent U.S. auction sales provide useful context: a 2010 car sold for $42,964 on June 9, 2026, and a 2008 car sold for $45,250 on May 19, 2026. These are dated guide and transaction figures, not an appraisal of every Roadster.

Hagerty also reported an average sale price of $62,500 for 16 Roadsters from 2008–2011 sold in the preceding 12 months, as displayed on its July 2026 valuation page. An average can be pulled upward or downward by unusual cars and should not be treated as the expected price of a particular vehicle. Hagerty’s page identified a Bring a Trailer sale at $40,250 on September 1, 2026 as the most recent sale shown there when reviewed. See Hagerty’s 2010 Roadster valuation page.

Recent sales show why one number is not enough

2010 Roadster, 49,000 miles, June 9, 2026 $42,964 A completed Bring a Trailer sale; the listing included service records. Bring a Trailer
2008 Roadster, 81,000 miles, May 19, 2026 $45,250 A completed Bring a Trailer sale; the listing included service records. Bring a Trailer
2008 Roadster, R80 3.0 retrofit, 39,000 miles, August 7, 2025 $70,000 A higher-priced example with a described 80-kWh retrofit. It is not a controlled comparison proving the retrofit alone caused the difference. Bring a Trailer
2008 Roadster, Hagerty sale record, August 18, 2026 $45,150 Hagerty’s record also lists nearby 2026 sales, including another car at $93,500, illustrating the spread between individual transactions. Hagerty sale record

What changes a Roadster’s value?

Condition and deferred maintenance

Repair needs can materially reduce what a buyer is willing to pay. Hagerty says its lowest prices are usually paid for cars with extensive maintenance needs, major departures from original configuration, accident histories, or title problems. A clean-looking car is not necessarily a mechanically sound one, so documentation and inspection matter.

Mileage and service records

Mileage helps put a sale in context, but these examples do not establish a simple price-per-mile formula. The 49,000-mile 2010 and 81,000-mile 2008 sold for $42,964 and $45,250, respectively; both listings described service records. Year, condition, maintenance, and equipment differ, so those results cannot isolate mileage’s effect.

  • Car enthusiasts will find a brilliant selection of vehicles known around the world to add to their collections.

Battery condition and upgrades

Battery status is important to a buyer, but a model-year specification is not evidence of a used car’s present battery health. Tesla’s 2010 filing reported approximately 53 kWh of usable energy and 236 miles of range using the filing’s stated EPA-derived test method; those historical manufacturer figures do not establish the capacity or range of any individual Roadster today. Tesla’s 2010 filing.

The $70,000 2008 R80 3.0 sale describes an 80-kWh retrofit, while the 2026 auction examples describe 53-kWh packs. Because the cars also differ in mileage, year, sale date, and other characteristics, the sales do not establish a dollar premium attributable to an upgrade. Ask for vehicle-specific battery documentation and records rather than assuming that an upgrade label guarantees a particular value.

Title, accident history, and originality

Check for accident history, title issues, and significant changes from original configuration. Hagerty identifies each as relevant to lower prices. Document what has been replaced or modified and confirm that the title and vehicle identity are consistent with the seller’s paperwork.

How to estimate the value of a specific car

  1. Start with a condition-adjusted guide. Use Hagerty’s Roadster valuation information as a dated baseline, making sure the year and condition category fit the car being considered. The July 2026 estimate cited above is specifically for a 2010 in #3 Good condition.
  2. Find completed sales, not just asking prices. Compare recent transactions for the closest year and version, then account for mileage, condition, battery or retrofit status, included equipment, and sale date.
  3. Verify the car’s records and history. Review maintenance documentation, title status, accident history, and evidence of any major repair or configuration change.
  4. Assess the individual car’s battery and service needs. Seek vehicle-level records and a qualified assessment. Do not infer current battery health from Tesla’s original range or capacity figures.
  5. Keep the date and market attached to your estimate. The figures here are U.S. guide and auction observations from 2025–2026; they are not a live offer and may not translate directly to another country or a later sale.

What to check before buying or selling

  • Exact year and version, plus whether the car remains in original configuration.
  • Odometer reading and supporting service history.
  • Battery documentation, upgrade details, and known service needs.
  • Condition, maintenance backlog, and any accident or title history.
  • Included equipment and owner documentation.
  • Comparable completed sales with dates and vehicle details similar to the car in question.

For high-voltage work, Tesla’s Roadster 2.5 Owner’s Manual warns: “Do not touch, remove or replace any high voltage parts.” The manual also advises sellers to leave the original owner-package materials in the vehicle for the next owner. Tesla Roadster 2.5 Owner’s Manual.
