Faversham House, the heritage-listed residence at 24 Grey Street in York, was reported for sale at $2.5 million in a PerthNow article published 19 July 2025. That report described a large home with permission to continue operating as accommodation. It does not establish whether the property has since sold or remains available.

What was reported about the Faversham House listing?

PerthNow reported that the property was offered for $2.5 million and could continue operating as accommodation. The report described it as a private residence and said the family decided to sell after a death in the family. Owner Eden Munro told the paper that the family had bought it in 2022 to run as a bed and breakfast and had restored it. These are details from the July 2025 sale report, not confirmation of the house’s current price, ownership or use. PerthNow’s 19 July 2025 report.

Reported size and features

The listing report described Faversham House as having 15 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, 1,302 square metres of indoor and verandah space, and a 1.72-hectare block. It also named a drawing room, formal dining hall, ballroom, billiard room, wine cellar and library. PerthNow said some antique furniture and period fittings, including marble fireplaces, were included in the reported asking price. Those figures and inclusions are listing-era descriptions, rather than independently verified current specifications.

Why is Faversham House historically significant?

The Heritage Council of Western Australia’s inHerit record identifies Faversham House as a two-storey stone residence with timber floors and a corrugated iron roof, in the Victorian Rustic Gothic style. It was built with convict labour and expanded over time by successive generations of the Monger family. The Council identifies the place as significant to York for its historical, architectural and social associations and as a local landmark. Heritage Council of Western Australia inHerit record.

The record describes the house’s association with Western Australia’s convict period, noting that convict labour was used in most stages of construction. It also documents later uses as a hospital and convalescent home, followed by accommodation and function use after restoration. The house was entered in the State Register on 2 September 1997.

When was Faversham House built?

The official heritage chronology distinguishes the land grant from the house’s construction. It records a grant to John Henry Monger Senior in 1841, excavation and cellar work around 1849, and construction of the house from about 1850, with later additions by family members. PerthNow’s 2025 article gives 1836 as a construction date, but that date does not align with the chronology in the Heritage Council record. Is Faversham House still for sale?

The available reporting establishes that Faversham House was listed in July 2025, not that it remains on the market today. The PerthNow article and Heritage Council record do not confirm a subsequent sale, current asking price, current owner or whether accommodation operations have continued. Treat the $2.5 million figure as the asking price reported in July 2025, not as a current valuation or live listing price.
