Not at Honda’s published starting prices. For the 2026 model year, Honda lists the Prologue EX at $39,900 and the Civic Sedan at $24,695, before certain additional charges. A specific lease or purchase offer could change the comparison, but Honda’s available offer fields do not show populated terms that would verify a deal making the Prologue cheaper. To judge any such claim, compare the full cost—not just the advertised monthly payment.
What Honda’s 2026 prices show
Honda’s starting MSRPs put the Prologue $15,205 above the Civic Sedan. The Prologue price is for the EX trim; the Civic figure is the sedan’s starting price. Honda says the Prologue MSRP excludes tax, license, registration, destination charge and accessories, and notes that dealer prices may vary. A direct comparison of these starting prices does not establish what either vehicle would cost after a negotiated deal, taxes, fees or incentives.
| 2026 model | Published starting MSRP | Other relevant published details |
|---|---|---|
| Honda Prologue EX | $39,900 | Honda lists a 308-mile EPA range rating for EX; detailed specs distinguish 308 miles for front-wheel drive and 294 miles for AWD. |
| Honda Prologue Touring | $44,200 | Honda lists a 308-mile EPA range rating for Touring; detailed specs distinguish 308 miles for front-wheel drive and 294 miles for AWD. |
| Honda Prologue Elite | $50,400 | Honda lists a 283-mile EPA range rating. |
| Honda Civic Sedan | $24,695 | Honda lists 32/41 city/highway MPG. |
| Honda Civic Sedan Hybrid | $29,395 | Honda’s model pages list 50/47 city/highway MPG. |
These are Honda’s published figures, not dealer quotes or a total-cost comparison. Prologue equipment, drivetrain and trim affect both price and range; Honda lists an 85 kWh battery, 220 horsepower for front-wheel drive and 300 horsepower for dual-motor AWD. For a specific vehicle, confirm the trim, drivetrain, destination charge and dealer quote before comparing costs.
Why a low lease payment does not prove the Prologue is cheaper
A lease advertisement can show a monthly payment below a Civic’s payment while requiring a large amount upfront, allowing fewer annual miles, or applying only to certain customers or locations. The monthly figure alone does not reveal the lease’s total cost. The Honda offer fields available for this comparison do not provide populated terms, so no particular Prologue deal, eligibility condition or expiration date can be verified here.

Before treating an advertised lease as evidence that the Prologue costs less, get the written offer and check each item:
- Vehicle: model year, trim and drivetrain for both cars.
- Lease structure: term, annual mileage allowance and excess-mile charge.
- Upfront amount: total due at signing, including any cap-cost reduction, first payment, acquisition fee and dealer charges.
- Recurring payment: monthly payment and whether taxes are included or added.
- Eligibility: required location, credit qualification, loyalty or other customer conditions, and whether the payment assumes incentives unavailable to you.
- Timing and availability: expiration date and whether the offer applies to a vehicle actually available from a local dealer.
- End of lease: disposition or other lease-end fees, wear charges and any purchase option terms.
Then calculate the amount paid over the lease: due at signing plus each monthly payment for the full term, plus taxes and fees not already included. Apply the same method to a Civic quote with the same term and mileage allowance. A lease comparison is meaningful only when the vehicles, upfront costs, tax treatment and obligations are made visible.

Account for charging, fuel and ownership costs
Even a properly matched lease-payment comparison is not a full cost-of-ownership comparison. Include the energy bill, insurance, maintenance, registration and taxes. For a lease, include mileage penalties and end-of-term costs; for a purchase, include financing costs and expected resale value if comparing the period you plan to own the car. The figures available here do not establish a personalized total-cost result because those costs depend on location, driving, insurance quotes, financing and the offer itself.
Honda says the 2026 Prologue includes a portable charger and a choice of a Home Charging Station Package or a $500 Sales Credit Package. Its Prologue page also describes up to a $1,250 installation incentive for a home charging station. Confirm package rules, installation conditions and local availability with Honda or the dealer; do not assume the maximum incentive is cash off the vehicle price or that every buyer qualifies.

For the Civic, Honda publishes fuel-economy ratings of 32/41 city/highway MPG for the listed Civic Sedan and 50/47 MPG for the Civic Sedan Hybrid. Those ratings can inform an estimate, but your actual fuel expense depends on miles driven, driving conditions and local fuel prices. Likewise, an EV’s electricity cost depends on charging location and local rates.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What would make the headline claim true?
“Less than the cost of a Civic” needs a defined meaning. It might refer to a lower monthly lease payment, a lower amount paid over a set lease term, or lower total ownership cost. Those are different claims. A lower monthly payment does not establish lower total outlay, and lower total outlay for one driver would not necessarily apply to another.

To substantiate a lease-based claim, a dealer or lender would need to provide the Prologue and Civic offers with matching terms and all costs, including amount due at signing, payment schedule, taxes, fees, mileage and eligibility. To claim lower ownership cost, the comparison would also need a stated ownership period and defensible estimates for charging or fuel, insurance, maintenance, registration and resale or lease-end costs. Without those details, the published MSRPs do not support saying the Prologue costs less than a Civic.
