RepairPal’s estimates range from $10,370–$10,553 for a 2020 Prius Prime to $31,186–$31,409 for a 2022 RAV4 Prime; both exclude taxes and fees and are third-party estimates, not Toyota quotes. Before budgeting for a replacement, check whether the vehicle is still covered by warranty and get a written, VIN-specific estimate.
What the available estimates say
The figures below are RepairPal estimates for specific model years, not prices that apply to every Toyota PHEV. RepairPal says they exclude taxes and fees, and actual costs can vary by location.
| Vehicle | RepairPal estimate | Page update | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2020 Prius Prime | $10,370–$10,553 | August 7, 2026 | Taxes and fees excluded; third-party estimate, not a Toyota quote. |
| 2022 RAV4 Prime | $31,186–$31,409 | September 3, 2026 | Taxes and fees excluded; third-party estimate, not a Toyota quote. Depending on the case, the estimate may include related repair needs. |
The difference between these estimates is a reason not to treat either number as a universal Toyota battery-replacement price. They concern different vehicles and model years, and neither establishes a nationwide average or a price for newer models. Toyota does not publish a complete replacement-price list in the cited materials. Your actual bill depends on the diagnosed fault, parts, labor, location and any related work.
Check warranty coverage before paying for a replacement
Toyota states that, for hybrid vehicles beginning with model year 2020, the high-voltage (HV) battery is covered for 10 years from its original date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage is subject to the terms and conditions in the applicable New Vehicle Limited Warranty and Warranty and Maintenance Guide. Toyota’s owner warranty information is at Toyota warranty and owner resources.

- Easy Installation
Toyota’s materials for the 2024 Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime also describe 10-year/150,000-mile HV battery coverage and say it transfers between owners. That does not settle eligibility for every vehicle: warranty terms and emissions rules can vary by jurisdiction. Check the vehicle’s in-service date, mileage, applicable warranty booklet and coverage with Toyota before authorizing customer-pay work.
Make sure the estimate is for the right battery and repair
In this context, “battery replacement” means the high-voltage traction battery associated with plug-in electric driving—not the 12-volt accessory battery. Toyota describes the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime as plug-in hybrids that combine gasoline-engine and electric-motor power. See Toyota’s official newsroom for model information.

A warning light, reduced electric range or another symptom does not by itself establish that the entire traction battery pack must be replaced. Ask the repairer to identify the fault and explain why the proposed work calls for a full pack. The cited pricing sources do not establish whether repair or module-level service is possible or suitable for a particular vehicle.

Ask a Toyota dealer and, if appropriate, an independent hybrid specialist for written estimates tied to your VIN. Compare the scope and terms, not just the total.

- Diagnosis: Does testing confirm that the high-voltage traction battery itself needs replacement? What related repairs, if any, are included?
- Part: What is the exact battery pack part number, and is it new OEM, remanufactured, used or another type?
- Itemized charges: Request separate amounts for the battery, labor, diagnostics, taxes, disposal and related repairs. RepairPal’s example estimates exclude taxes and fees, so those charges can change the total.
- Warranty: What coverage applies to the replacement battery and installation labor, and for how long?
- Vehicle coverage: Has Toyota or the repairer checked applicable warranty or emissions coverage before customer-pay work begins?
- Fit and availability: Does the part fit your exact model year and trim, and is it available locally?
For any estimate, have the repairer explain what is included and what could be billed separately. A VIN-specific written quote is the practical way to establish your likely cost; the published estimates alone cannot do that.
