No verified public record establishes how much Madonna paid Guy Ritchie in their 2008 divorce settlement. A report put the deal at at least £50 million, potentially £60 million, but Madonna and Ritchie later called the statement about the sums “misleading and inaccurate” and said the financial details would remain private.
Where did the £50–60 million figure come from?
On December 15, 2008, The Guardian reported that Madonna’s spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, described the settlement as worth at least £50 million and possibly as much as £60 million. The report said the estimate included the value of Ashcombe, the couple’s country home in Wiltshire. It was therefore an estimate of the deal’s overall value, not a confirmed cash payment to Ritchie. The same report noted that a source close to Ritchie questioned the £50 million figure.

Did Madonna and Ritchie confirm the amount?
No. In a joint statement reported by ABC News on December 17, 2008, the couple said a statement about the sums was “misleading and inaccurate” and that the settlement’s financial details would remain private. They added: “The financial details of the settlement will remain private, save to say that both of us are happy with our agreement.” ABC’s Reuters-sourced report also repeated the earlier £50–60 million estimate, rendered at the time as $111–133 million. Those dollar amounts were contemporaneous conversions, not a current-value calculation or confirmation of the settlement.
What do the divorce records establish?
The Guardian reported on November 21, 2008, that a decree nisi had been pronounced in the High Court in London in the case of Ciccone M L v Ritchie G S. Its report said neither party had then demanded a formal financial settlement; that earlier account does not establish the terms of any later agreement. The published Ciccone v Ritchie judgment concerns child-related proceedings and does not disclose the couple’s financial settlement. The judgment therefore does not verify a payout amount.
