Gwyneth Paltrow Says Goop Is Growing: What the 10% Revenue Claim Shows

A Goop spokesperson reported 10% revenue growth in 2024, but the figure does not establish profitability or show how individual business units performed.

Goop said its revenue rose 10% in 2024 compared with 2023, according to a spokesperson quoted by Vanity Fair and reported by TechCrunch on March 20, 2025. That is a company-reported revenue increase—not proof that Goop was profitable or that its business units grew at the same rate.

What Goop said about growth

In a Vanity Fair cover story and interview, Gwyneth Paltrow discussed the company she founded in 2008. The specific growth figure came from a Goop spokesperson, who described 2024 as one of the company’s best years yet and said revenue was up 10% from 2023. TechCrunch summarized the interview and statement in its March 20, 2025 report: TechCrunch’s report on Goop’s growth.

The comparison is between annual revenue in 2024 and 2023. The report does not provide the underlying revenue totals, financial statements, or independent verification of the percentage. It also does not say whether Goop was profitable.

Revenue growth is not the same as profit

Revenue measures money a business brings in before accounting for its expenses. A 10% increase can therefore coexist with a profit, a loss, or a break-even result; the figure alone does not show which outcome applied to Goop. TechCrunch reported that the company did not disclose whether it was profitable.

  • Himalayan Salt Scrub: This detox shampoo made of exfoliating mineral-rich Himalayan pink salt, nourishing cold-pressed moringa oil, and pure unfiltered rose hip oil purifies and detoxifies all at once.
  • Oily Hair Shampoo: Our scalp and hair are our crown, and this scrub cleanses the hair and scalp of product buildup, dirt, and oil, leaving both clean and refreshed.
  • Natural Shampoo: Our hair care products are formulated without parabens, petroleum, phthalates, SLS, SLES, PEGs, TEA, DEA, silicones, or artificial dyes or fragrances. And our formulas are not tested on animals.
  • Unique Texture: This scalp shampoo has a unique whipped texture. The cleansing scent—rosemary, geranium, orange, and peppermint—lingers subtly in hair (and smells amazing as you wash).
  • How to Use: Use as a hair shampoo: Make sure hair is thoroughly wet, and apply directly onto your scalp. Gently massage into a lather, then rinse thoroughly as the salts dissolve. Use 1x a week or as needed. Follow with your favorite conditioner.

Paltrow also described organizational changes intended to optimize EBITDA—earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization, a measure commonly used to assess operating performance. The report does not establish that those changes improved EBITDA or caused the reported revenue increase.

What the update says about Goop’s businesses

The spokesperson said Goop Beauty, fashion label G. Label, and food-delivery business Goop Kitchen were growing. No separate revenue figures, growth rates, or other financial results were given for those units, so the company-wide 10% figure should not be assigned to any one of them.

TechCrunch also reported that Goop Kitchen closed a $15 million funding round, with investors including Travis Kalanick. A funding round is financing for the business; it is not evidence that the company generated an equivalent amount in sales or profit.

Why the claim drew attention

TechCrunch set the update against earlier reports that Goop sales had been flat since 2021 and that the company reduced its workforce in September 2024, followed by another round of layoffs in November. Those details were relayed by TechCrunch from other publications, including Puck for the flat-sales account; they are not independently verified operating data in TechCrunch’s report.

The reported history gives context, but it does not show why revenue rose in 2024. Nor does it establish that layoffs caused the increase or that the company’s organizational changes produced better financial performance.

What Paltrow said about competition

Asked about competition, Paltrow told Vanity Fair: “I think there’s always more than enough to go around. Everybody deserves an attempt at everything they want to try.” Her comment expresses her view of the market; it is separate from the company’s reported revenue figure.
