The gift was tied to that children’s project, rather than described as a general operating donation to the women’s shelter.
Which shelter received the gift?
The recipient was Lotus House, a women’s shelter in Miami’s Overtown neighborhood. Bündchen announced the contribution at the April 25, 2023 groundbreaking for the organization’s planned Children’s Village. The Miami Herald’s contemporaneous report connected the gift to the project’s playground and educational programming.
What was the $1 million intended to fund?
Contemporary reporting described the contribution as support for a new playground and educational programming at the Children’s Village. The playground was one component of a larger project, not the whole campus. In the Herald’s account, Bündchen said, “Building a solid community for children is so important, especially for those who are vulnerable and in need.”
What happened to the Children’s Village?
Lotus House announced in November 2025 that the Children’s Village had opened. The organization describes it as a 70,000-square-foot campus focused on education, health, and creative expression for children and families. Lotus House’s announcement again said Bündchen’s $1 million gift helped build a playground.
