The announcement made 2025 the final season for both; it did not mean they disappeared when the season began.
Which Girl Scout cookies were discontinued?
Girl Scouts of the USA announced on January 7, 2025, that Girl Scout S’mores and Toast-Yay! would be retired after the 2025 cookie season. The organization described 2025 as the final season for both flavors. GSUSA’s announcement, distributed by PR Newswire, stated: “At the close of the 2025 cookie season, two beloved cookie flavors, Girl Scout S’mores® and Toast-Yay!, will be retired.”
That timing matters: the cookies remained part of the 2025 season, while local sales dates and remaining supplies depended on the council and area. ABC News also reported the retirement of the same two flavors.
Why were S’mores and Toast-Yay! retired?
Official materials connect Toast-Yay!’s final season with making way for a new cookie in 2026. They do not establish a specific sales, cost, or consumer-preference reason for retiring either flavor, so claims that the decision was driven by poor sales or production costs are not supported by the cited announcements.

A council-specific 2025 program guide likewise identified Toast-Yay! as being in its final season. Its lineup and details apply to that council, not automatically to every local market. Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois’ 2025 Cookie Program At-a-Glance described Toast-Yay! in a French-toast-inspired context and said it was ending to make way for a new cookie.
What cookie joined the lineup in 2026?
GSUSA announced Exploremores for the nationwide 2026 cookie season on September 9, 2025. The organization described it as “a rocky road ice cream–inspired sandwich cookie.” GSUSA’s Exploremores announcement establishes the new cookie’s inspiration and season, but does not say it is a direct replacement for Girl Scout S’mores or Toast-Yay! The change is a lineup transition, not evidence that the new cookie duplicates either retired flavor.

Can you still buy the retired cookies?
The retirement announcement and 2025 program materials do not establish current inventory. Official Girl Scout sales were tied to the cookie season and local council availability; any later resale listing is separate from official Girl Scout sales. Check with a local council for information about its program, and treat third-party listings as unverified rather than assuming stock is available or endorsed by GSUSA.
