German agricultural technology company Klim announced a $22 million Series A on November 12, 2024, led by BNP Paribas. The company said it would use the funding to expand internationally, improve its platform, develop financing for farmers transitioning to regenerative practices, and refine services for food companies working on emissions within their supply chains. The announcement set out plans; it does not establish that every planned expansion or product change has since taken place.

What Klim does

Klim connects farmers with food companies seeking to address the environmental impact of agricultural sourcing. Its farmer-facing platform supports planning and implementing regenerative practices, tracking progress, and potentially accessing transition finance or revenue tied to supply-chain insetting. For food companies, Klim offers services related to emissions and resilience in their agricultural supply chains.

Insetting refers to climate-related work within a company’s own value chain, rather than buying external carbon offsets. Klim CEO and cofounder Robert Gerlach specifically cautioned against describing the company’s work as carbon offsets in a TechCrunch interview published November 12, 2024.

How the platform works for farmers and companies

Farm-level guidance and transition

Gerlach described the farmer experience as a staged transition: farmers receive agronomic guidance tailored to their farm and help managing risk, then track outcomes. He gave starting on only a small portion of a farm as an example of how a farmer might reduce risk while adopting new methods. The platform is intended to help farmers assess practices, implement them, and document their effects.

Measuring reported impacts

Gerlach said Klim combines satellite data, soil samples, and primary information entered by farmers, which he said feeds into a certified model to quantify emissions reductions and removals. The interview does not provide enough technical detail to independently assess the model’s certification, methodology, or results, so that description should be understood as Gerlach’s account of Klim’s approach.

Services for food companies

Companies can use Klim’s services to support agricultural supply-chain insetting and monitor, report, and verify program activity. TechCrunch reported that Klim takes a commission on sales of supply-chain-linked insets; the report did not state the commission rate or contract terms.

Who invested and how Klim said it would use the money

BNP Paribas led the $22 million Series A. AgFunderNews reported that Earthshot Ventures, Rabobank, AgFunder, Norinchukin Bank, Achmea Innovation Fund, Ananda Impact Ventures, and Elevator Ventures also participated. These names identify participants reported in the coverage; they do not establish that each was a new investor.

Klim’s announced priorities for the proceeds were:

  • Expanding its platform internationally and enhancing its features.
  • Building a financial-services layer intended to help farmers fund the transition to regenerative practices.
  • Refining its insetting offer for companies working on agricultural supply-chain impacts.

At the time of the funding announcement, coverage said Klim was available in Germany and Poland and planned to expand elsewhere in Europe. A Klim press-page listing for an AgTech Navigator story titled “Klim’s UK arrival: a new era for regenerative food systems,” dated September 10, 2025, indicates later coverage of a UK arrival. The listing alone does not verify current availability, eligibility, or service terms in any country. See Klim’s press page.

What was known about Klim’s scale and partners

In November 2024 coverage, Klim reported serving 3,500 farmers across 700,000 hectares, an area TechCrunch described as 5% of German farmland. These are historical, company-reported figures, not independently updated totals. TechCrunch named Nestlé, Kaufland, and Aryzta as clients.

A later example of Klim’s company-facing work came in January 2025, when ADM announced a partnership with Klim to onboard German farmers and develop its re:generations program. ADM said Klim would provide monitoring, reporting, and verification services. The German program then offered per-hectare incentives and was open to wheat, oilseed rape, and soy farmers, according to ADM’s January 23, 2025 announcement.

ADM set a goal of enrolling 60,000 acres—approximately 24,281 hectares—in Germany by 2025. That was a stated target, not evidence that the acreage was reached.

What the raise means—and what it does not establish

The financing gave Klim capital to pursue a broader European footprint and build financial support around farmers’ transition costs, alongside its existing platform and supply-chain services. The announcement also illustrates a business model that depends on connecting farm-level implementation and measurement with companies’ sourcing programs. Whether the planned financing and expansion translated into current services, and at what scale, is not established by the cited announcements and dated coverage.
