George Lucas reportedly bought a London mansion for about £40 million ($52.3 million) in September 2025, but that purchase does not confirm he is leaving the United States. Bloomberg reported the transaction; The Standard placed the home in St John’s Wood and said Lucas hoped to spend more time in London. Neither report establishes a permanent relocation or a confirmed political reason for the purchase.
What has been reported about the London purchase?
Bloomberg reported on November 4, 2025, that Lucas bought the property in September for about £40 million ($52.3 million). Bloomberg attributed the account to people familiar with the transaction who were not authorized to discuss it publicly. A Lucas spokesperson declined to comment. That supports describing the purchase as reported, rather than as a transaction publicly confirmed by Lucas.
The Standard identified the neighborhood as St John’s Wood, in northwest London. The reporting cited here does not establish an exact address or detailed specifications for the property.
Does buying the home mean Lucas is relocating?
No permanent move has been confirmed in these reports. The Standard said Lucas was hoping to spend more time in London, which is a reported intention, not evidence that he has changed his primary residence or plans to leave the United States.

Lucas has also been described as owning California properties, including Skywalker Ranch and a home in Carpinteria. That ownership context does not establish where he currently lives or what he will do next.
Is U.S. politics behind the purchase?
That explanation remains speculation. The Standard relayed a political rationale attributed to a source close to the deal, not a public explanation from Lucas. Bloomberg said his spokesperson declined to comment on the purchase.

LBC has reported Lucas’s comments about the political backdrop to Star Wars: “It was really about the Vietnam War, and that was the period where Nixon was trying to run for a [second] term, which got me to thinking historically about how do democracies get turned into dictatorships? Because the democracies aren’t overthrown; they’re given away.” Those remarks concern the history and ideas behind the films; they do not explain why he bought a London home.
