Was this the same deal that fell through in May 2025?

It is not established that the Bale-linked approach was the same investment deal Plymouth Argyle owner Simon Hallett said had fallen through on 31 May 2025. Hallett said discussions with a prospective investor had lasted more than a year and that an application for EFL approval had been lodged in February. He also said information needed by the club and the EFL had not been forthcoming. BBC Sport’s account of Hallett’s statement does not identify that investor as Bale’s group.

The distinction matters: the May statement concerned a deal that Hallett said was no longer progressing, while the June report described a group registering interest. The available sources do not connect the two developments.

What was Plymouth Argyle’s ownership position afterward?

In reporting dated 13 April 2026, BBC Sport said Hallett remained patient in his search for new investment. He said: “I think we have to be patient, because we’re so careful about getting the right person in as an investor, or the right group in as investors.” BBC Sport’s April 2026 report provides later context, but does not say what ultimately happened to the Bale-linked approach.

Plymouth Argyle’s company information page lists Simon Hallett with 86.99% ownership, Argyle Green, LLC with 11.84%, and third-party owners with the remaining 1.17%. The club’s company information page does not confirm a completed takeover by Bale’s group.
