Global Technical Realty (GTR) announced approximately $1.9 billion in new equity commitments on January 7, 2026, to advance its European data center pipeline. KKR committed $1.5 billion and new investor Oak Hill Capital committed approximately $400 million. The announcement called the total nearly $2 billion; the headline figure is rounded, not a separate financing amount.

How much did GTR secure, and who invested?

The commitments comprise two contributions: KKR, an existing investor, committed an additional $1.5 billion, while Oak Hill Capital joined as a new investor with an approximately $400 million commitment. KKR announced the amounts on January 7, 2026, and described the combined sum as nearly $2 billion. Data Center Dynamics reported the combined amount as $1.9 billion, consistent with those components.

These are equity commitments, not disclosed construction expenditures or a stated total project value. The announcement did not disclose investment terms, and it did not say how much of the capital is allocated to any particular site.

What does GTR plan to do with the capital?

GTR said the funding will support its substantial development pipeline, including additional greenfield capacity and expansion into new European markets. The release did not name those markets, provide a project-by-project budget, or set out a schedule for the planned investment.

KKR linked its investment to demand for cloud infrastructure and high-performance, power-dense computing. Andrew Peisch, a KKR partner, said the need for scalable, power-efficient data center infrastructure in Europe had grown as cloud use expanded and AI demand began to materialize. That is the investor’s assessment, not an independent measurement of demand.

GTR CEO and founder Franek Sodzawiczny said the capital would help the company scale its team, deepen operating capabilities, and move faster into new markets. These are stated intentions; the announcement does not quantify planned hiring or operating investment.

What is GTR building in Europe?

GTR describes itself as a European build-to-suit platform: it designs and constructs data centers tailored to large technology customers, including global hyperscalers. Its website emphasizes sustainable design, but the financing announcement does not provide project-level sustainability targets or performance figures.

GB Two in Southall, West London

One named example of GTR’s development activity is GB Two, a planned campus on the International Trading Estate in Southall. In a November 6, 2025 announcement, GTR said the project had received planning approval from Ealing Borough Council and would comprise four data centers with planned capacity of 256 MW on a 32.2-acre site.

What the announcement establishes—and what it leaves open

  • Established: KKR committed an additional $1.5 billion, and Oak Hill Capital committed approximately $400 million as a new investor.
  • Stated purpose: funding GTR’s development pipeline, including greenfield capacity and entry into additional European markets.
  • Not specified: project-level allocations, the identities of the new markets, the timing and amount of each market entry, and the investment terms.
  • Important distinction: an equity commitment is financing for the company; it is not, by itself, evidence that an equivalent amount has already been spent on construction.

For an investor or reader assessing the scale of the announcement, the useful figures are the two named commitments and their approximately $1.9 billion combined value. The headline’s $2 billion is a rounded shorthand, while the expansion plans remain broad rather than project-budget disclosures.
