The April 22, 2025 deadline did not end the Reading FC takeover process: the English Football League (EFL) extended it to May 5 after the club reported progress and agreed sale terms with an unnamed buyer. The deal was completed on May 14, 2025, when Redwood Holdings Limited acquired the club with EFL ratification reported by the BBC.
What happened when the April 22 deadline passed?
The deadline was part of the EFL’s requirement for former owner Dai Yongge to divest his interests in Reading. On April 22, 2025, the league granted a further extension until Monday, May 5, subject to compliance with other EFL regulations. It said the proposed sale had made further progress and that it continued to monitor the club’s immediate cash-flow requirements. The EFL’s statement said: “The League continues to monitor the Club’s immediate cash flow requirements.”
What sale terms had Reading agreed?
In reporting on April 22, the BBC said Reading had agreed terms with a buyer whose identity was confidential at that stage. The reported sale scope included both the Select Car Leasing Stadium and the Bearwood Park training facility. The extension gave the parties 13 more days to complete the deal. The BBC’s report described the agreement as terms reached, not a completed takeover.
Who bought Reading FC, and when did the takeover complete?
The takeover completed on May 14, 2025. The BBC reported that Redwood Holdings Limited acquired Reading, with EFL ratification. Redwood was identified as a subsidiary of Dogwood Football LLC, which is owned by Rob Couhig and Todd Trosclair. The BBC’s completion report marks the end of the takeover process described in the April deadline news.

Who owns the club now?
Reading FC’s official company-details page, checked on October 8, 2026, lists Redwood Holdings Limited as the owner of Reading Football Club Limited and Robert Emmett Couhig Jnr and Todd Trosclair as directors. This is a current corporate listing; it does not establish the club’s financial health or future plans.
What was said about later concerns over the training ground and academy?
In a BBC report dated January 2, 2026, Couhig denied rumors that the training ground would be sold and the academy downgraded, and described the academy as Category One. These are statements attributed to Couhig at that date, not independent confirmation of every rumor or a current update. The BBC report provides that dated context.
