Who leads Ford’s European passenger-car business?
Christian Weingärtner became Ford Europe’s General Manager, Passenger Vehicles, on February 1, 2026. Ford said he is responsible for passenger-vehicle strategy and operational execution, including introducing a new generation of affordable multi-energy vehicles. He also leads Ford’s strategy team and a newly created European partnership team. Maria Grazia Davino joined Ford as Vice President, Sales, Ford of Europe, effective October 1, 2026. Her remit covers sales and commercial operations, including retail, the dealer network and distribution. She reports to Ford Europe President Jim Baumbick. The roles are distinct, not a handoff: Weingärtner is responsible for passenger-vehicle strategy and execution; Davino is responsible for sales and distribution across Europe. Baumbick is the regional president to whom Davino reports.

What Ford says is driving the changes
Ford has described its European passenger-car business as having incurred significant losses in recent years. In November 2024, the company cited disruption from electrification and new competition, as well as lower-than-expected demand for electric cars. Ford said that demand led it to adjust the production program for the Explorer and Capri and schedule additional short-time working at its Cologne plant in the first quarter of 2025. These are Ford’s explanations and actions announced at that time, not an independent assessment of the European EV market. Ford’s November 2024 statement
That statement also set out a plan to reduce Ford’s European workforce by 4,000 positions by the end of 2027, subject to consultation with European social partners. Ford said the planned reductions would primarily affect Germany and also the UK; the announcement does not establish that all proposed reductions have since been completed. Ford’s leadership appointments do not, by themselves, show whether the company’s business challenges have been resolved. The stated strategy involves changing the vehicles Ford sells, its partnerships and its industrial costs, alongside its established commercial-vehicle operation.
How Ford plans to reshape its European vehicle range
Partnership and affordable multi-energy vehicles
In December 2025, Ford announced a strategic partnership with Renault Group, saying it would combine Renault’s industrial scale with Ford’s design for affordable electric vehicles. Ford said a new generation of multi-energy vehicles would arrive from 2028. Ford’s partnership announcement

Five vehicles planned by the end of 2029
In May 2026, Ford said it planned five all-new passenger vehicles made in Europe for Europe by the end of 2029:
- A compact multi-energy SUV in the Bronco family.
- A small electric hatchback.
- A fully electric small SUV.
- Two multi-energy crossovers.
These are announced plans, not confirmation that the vehicles have launched. Ford’s release also described plans for Ford Pro software and connected services, reflecting the company’s intention to continue developing its commercial business alongside passenger cars. Ford’s May 2026 announcement

What the appointments mean for Ford’s plans
The organizational split aligns leaders with two different parts of Ford’s European effort: Weingärtner’s role covers what passenger vehicles the company plans and how it executes that strategy; Davino’s covers how Ford sells and distributes vehicles across the region. Ford has also emphasized strengthening Ford Pro, expanding its passenger-car range, and improving industrial scale and cost efficiency. Whether those steps restore passenger-car performance will depend on execution and market conditions, not the appointments alone.
Ford reported that worldwide paid software subscriptions rose 30% to 879,000 in the first quarter of 2026. That is a company-reported global software figure, not a measure of European EV demand or of the performance of the planned passenger vehicles. Ford’s May 2026 announcement
