On April 30, 2025, BetaNews reported that Fanatics attributed an interruption affecting New York sportsbook users to a cut fiber-optic cable. The article said customers could not make deposits or withdrawals, cash out, or place new bets while service was disrupted. It also reported that bets placed before the outage would still be settled.
Those details are a media account of Fanatics’ statement, not an independently audited service record or a technical postmortem. The report did not establish how long the outage lasted, how many customers were affected, or the financial impact.
Was the outage sabotage or a cyberattack?
That has not been established. A cut cable was the reported mechanism; the public account does not say whether the cut was accidental or intentional, or identify who was responsible. BetaNews raised sabotage as a possibility, but supplied no evidence verifying it. The available account also does not verify a cyberattack.

Fanatics had described security and network measures in a separate, earlier context. In an October 3, 2023 New York State Gaming Commission meeting transcript, the company said it planned to continue using the PointsBet technology stack then operating in New York, with two internet providers for network redundancy and measures including threat hunting and distributed denial-of-service detection. Could customers place bets or cash out during the disruption?
According to BetaNews’ account, new bets, deposits, withdrawals and cash-outs were unavailable during the interruption. It reported that bets placed before the outage would still be settled. This does not establish what happened in any individual account, whether a particular transaction was accepted, or whether a customer is entitled to compensation for a failed or delayed cash-out.

- Write to Fanatics first. The Fanatics New York house rules say to submit a complaint or dispute in writing as soon as reasonably practicable after the transaction. Include enough account, bet and transaction information for the company to identify the issue, and keep a copy of your message and any response.
- Escalate to the state regulator if needed. If you are dissatisfied with Fanatics’ response, the rules direct you to complain about a New York bet to the New York State Gaming Commission. The rules list its contact details; check the linked page for the current submission method and information before sending a complaint.
The regulator route is an avenue to raise a dispute, not a promise of a refund, reimbursement or other specific outcome. The rules and contact information may change, so use the official page rather than relying on saved details.
