How Figma Is Expanding in India Beyond Design

Figma’s Bengaluru office and expanding product suite reflect a bid to reach more of India’s software teams. Company-reported adoption figures show activity, but not India revenue or the expansion’s eventual success.

Figma’s India strategy combines a Bengaluru office with a push to serve more of the people involved in building and marketing software—not just designers. The office opened on November 12, 2025, and Figma has described India as its second-largest market by monthly active users. Its reported figures show activity and intent, but do not establish how much revenue India contributes or whether the expansion will succeed.

What Figma’s Bengaluru office signals

Figma opened its Bengaluru office on November 12, 2025. Before then, the company supported Indian users remotely through its Singapore team. TechCrunch reported that the new office would initially focus on strengthening local sales and marketing. Figma said the local presence would help it get closer to users and the community; the opening alone does not confirm a local engineering or product-hiring plan. TechCrunch and Figma’s announcement describe the launch and its stated aims.

Why Figma says India matters

Figma called India its second-largest market by monthly active users, but did not disclose an India-specific user count or revenue figure in the cited reporting. The company said its users were present in 85% of India’s 28 official states as of the third quarter of 2025. It also reported that more than 40% of the top 100 Bombay Stock Exchange companies were customers as of September 2025. These are company-reported measures, not an independent census of adoption. Figma also pointed to developer use. It said India was its largest market for Figma Make and that Indian users had generated more than 800,000 prototypes by the time of TechCrunch’s November 2025 report. That figure does not say how many people used Make, how often prototypes were used, or how many became shipped products. For context, Figma reported 13 million weekly active users worldwide in the same report; that is a global figure, not an India total. TechCrunch

What “beyond design” includes

Figma’s broader platform is aimed at multiple stages of product work, from early collaboration to handoff, publishing, and marketing. Its product descriptions and filings frame the goal as helping teams move from idea to a shipped product. The portfolio includes:

  • FigJam: collaborative brainstorming and whiteboarding.
  • Dev Mode: developer-focused design handoff and implementation workflows.
  • Figma Slides: presentations.
  • Figma Make: prompt-driven prototyping.
  • Figma Sites: website creation and publishing.
  • Figma Buzz: marketing assets and content workflows.
  • Figma Draw: vector illustration.

These offerings broaden who might use Figma: developers, product managers, marketers, and other collaborators alongside designers. Figma’s annual filing describes product innovation, converting free users to paid plans, selling additional products to existing customers, extensibility, international expansion, and acquisitions as growth levers. It identifies Dev Mode and Buzz as products intended to address developers’ and marketers’ needs. That is the company’s strategy, not evidence that each product has achieved adoption in India. Figma’s 2025 Form 10-K and its Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 describe the company and its platform.

What Figma’s India survey does—and does not—show

In its November 2025 announcement, Figma published findings from a YouGov study of 730 professionals in leadership roles across design, engineering, and product. Among the findings it reported:

  • 93% of designers surveyed said their companies already used AI in design.
  • 85% of designers surveyed agreed that AI simplifies writing code.
  • 81% of developers surveyed said design had become more important to the success of AI-powered products.

These are responses from the described survey sample, as reported by Figma; they should not be treated as views of all Indian designers or developers. Nor do opinions about AI establish that AI tools improve the quality or business results of software. Figma’s India announcement

How to read the adoption figures

The available numbers support a case that Figma sees a meaningful Indian user base and an opportunity to reach more roles in product development. They are dated snapshots rather than current 2026 metrics. Figma also reported that 85% of its users were outside the United States as of the first quarter of 2025, and that about half of its 2024 revenue came from outside the U.S.; neither figure isolates India. Figma

For a reader evaluating the strategy, keep three categories separate:

  • Announced intent: a Bengaluru presence and a broader product platform.
  • Company-reported activity: usage, customer, and prototype figures that Figma supplied or that reporting attributed to Figma.
  • Outcomes not established by these figures: India-specific revenue, an exact India user count, the financial return on the office, or proof that the products deliver better work.

Figma’s position is that India’s scale and the overlap between design and development make the country strategically important as it expands beyond its original design-tool focus. The cited figures explain why the company is making that bet; they do not prove its eventual commercial success.
