Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) notified a Simplified Electronic Return for Individuals for Tax Year 2025 on 18 August 2025. The form and FBR’s filing campaign were specific to that tax year; the campaign’s 30 September 2025 deadline has passed. The notification does not establish which form or deadline applies to Tax Year 2026.
What FBR announced for Tax Year 2025
Through S.R.O. 1561(I)/2025, dated 18 August 2025, FBR amended the Income Tax Rules, 2002 to add the Simplified Electronic Return for Individuals for Tax Year 2025. FBR’s 2025 filing campaign promoted filing online using the new form and named 30 September 2025 as the filing date. That date is historical, not a current deadline.
The notification establishes the form’s name and tax year, but the materials do not establish who qualified to use this specific simplified return. It would be unsafe to assume that every individual or every salaried taxpayer was eligible.
What is known—and not known—about the simplified form
The available official information does not provide a verified comparison with the previous return: there is no established field count, number of steps, measured time saving, or quantified reduction in complexity. The rollout should not be described as demonstrably faster or easier without a comparison of the actual forms.

FBR’s general filing guidance separately discusses Declaration form 114(I) for people whose income is only from salary and other sources, where salary is more than 50% of income. That guidance does not establish that form 114(I) is the same form as the Tax Year 2025 Simplified Electronic Return for Individuals.
How online income tax filing works in IRIS
FBR’s general income tax return filing guidance says an online filer must complete both a Return of Income and a Wealth Statement. In IRIS, submission is indicated when both forms move from Draft to Completed Task.

Complete both required forms
- Sign in to IRIS and complete the Return of Income.
- Complete the Wealth Statement as well. FBR says the statement must reconcile: the change in wealth should correspond to income less expenses.
- Check both forms in IRIS. The portal indicates successful submission when each has moved from Draft to Completed Task.
If the Wealth Statement does not reconcile, FBR says submission is prevented. Review the figures for income, expenses, and changes in wealth before trying again.

The Tax Year 2025 notification and campaign do not establish whether FBR has issued a Tax Year 2026 replacement or update. Before filing, check FBR’s current-year forms, eligibility rules, filing instructions, and deadline rather than relying on the expired 2025 campaign date.
