TechJuice reported on September 15, 2025, citing an FBR spokesperson, that Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue had deployed a new version of the IRIS registry. The reported changes cover the Recovery module and Registry of Profile, but FBR did not publish technical release notes in the sources available for this update. The report describes the scope; it does not establish measured performance results or confirm that every taxpayer will see a changed screen.

What the reported registry update changed

According to TechJuice’s September 15, 2025 report, the deployment covered two areas: the Recovery module and the Registry of Profile. The report says the update was intended to improve profile integration, make recovery processes more efficient, and simplify registration and profile management for individuals and organizations.

Those descriptions are attributed to the report, which cited an FBR spokesperson. The available account does not include a technical changelog, screenshots, a rollout timetable, or measured results. It therefore does not specify precisely which fields, buttons, or steps changed, or whether all users encountered the update at once.

Who may encounter the changes

The reported scope suggests the update may be relevant to people registering on IRIS, managing profile information, or dealing with a recovery process. It also covers organizations, according to TechJuice. The report does not define eligibility, list affected user categories in detail, or say that existing taxpayers must take a particular action because of the deployment.

If you are already using IRIS, follow the instructions shown in the portal and consult FBR’s official help materials if a screen or process differs from the general guidance below. The available report does not establish that the registry update changed filing requirements or every user’s registration workflow.

How this differs from the IRIS 2.0 launch

The registry deployment is not the same event as the launch of IRIS 2.0. FBR says Chairman Asim Ahmad launched IRIS 2.0 on July 27, 2023, and that PRAL developed the system. In its 2023 launch announcement, FBR described backend enhancements and an improved frontend intended to address performance, user-satisfaction, and peak-load hardware challenges in earlier versions. These are separate developments, reported or announced at different times:

Registering, recovering access, and finding help

FBR’s general income-tax guidance explains the basic access routes. It does not say that the steps were changed by the reported registry deployment.

  • First-time filer: FBR says you must register before filing an income-tax return.
  • Existing NTN or Registration Number holder without login credentials: use e-enrollment, as described in FBR’s income-tax guidance.
  • Forgotten password: use IRIS’s Forgot Password function. FBR says recovery codes are sent to the email address and mobile number registered to the account.
  • Need instructions: FBR’s IRIS help page lists user manuals, video tutorials, filing and registration guides, wealth-statement and income-tax resources, sales-tax materials, and spreadsheet templates.

Keep access to the registered email and mobile number available when attempting password recovery. If the portal’s current interface does not match FBR’s general guidance, use the help resources or the instructions presented in IRIS rather than assuming the reported registry update changed a particular step.

Other services and processes that use IRIS

The registry update sits within a broader portal, but the presence of other IRIS functions does not mean they were part of that deployment. FBR says ePayment 2.0 is available inside IRIS 2.0. Its announcement describes generating a Payment Slip ID (PSID), paying through internet banking, an ATM, or mobile banking, and receiving a Computerized Payment Receipt (CPR) by email and SMS. FBR says the service supports income tax, sales tax, federal excise duty, and withholding taxes.

Separately, in a September 25, 2026 announcement, FBR said notices, replies, and hearings for the National Faceless Centre would be handled electronically through IRIS. That administrative process is a later, distinct development—not a feature that FBR or TechJuice attributed to the registry update.
