FTX Customers May Recover Their Claims Plus Interest—but Payments Vary

FTX’s U.S. Chapter 11 plan provides interest on applicable allowed claims, but payments vary by claim type and status. Here’s what is known about distributions and how to check your own.

FTX’s U.S. Chapter 11 plan provides postpetition interest for applicable allowed claims, but it does not guarantee every former customer the same recovery or confirm that every scheduled payment has arrived. Your amount and timing depend on your allowed claim, claim class, unpaid balance, distribution dates and completion of required steps. As of October 8, 2026, the cited official materials do not confirm whether the fifth distribution scheduled for July 31, 2026, was completed or announce a later date.

What “plus interest” means for an FTX claim

Under the U.S. Chapter 11 plan, interest is calculated on the unpaid balance of an applicable allowed claim from the bankruptcy petition date through the distribution date on which that balance is paid. The rate depends on the type of claim, according to the FTX Recovery Trust’s Q1 2026 financial report.

Claim type Postpetition interest rate
Allowed Dotcom or U.S. Customer Entitlement Claim Consensus Rate
Allowed General Unsecured Claim The lower of the Consensus Rate or the applicable Contract Rate
Allowed Secured Loan Claim Federal Judgment Rate

The report says interest for a disputed claim that later becomes allowed is calculated as though the claim had been allowed and receiving distributions on relevant earlier distribution dates. That rule does not itself make a disputed claim allowed; the claim must still be resolved.

The Trust’s 2025 Annual Financial Report recorded $2,658 million in accrued postpetition interest as of December 31, 2025, across specified allowed, unclaimed and estimated allowed balances. That is an accrued amount, not money already paid out to customers. The same report recorded $168 million in postpetition interest among cumulative post-Effective Date distributions through that date.

How much has been distributed—and what the figures do not promise

In its 2025 Annual Financial Report, the FTX Recovery Trust reported cumulative distributions through December 31, 2025 of $8,131 million: $7,964 million in Allowed Claim payments and $168 million in postpetition interest. The reported components do not add exactly to the reported total, reflecting rounding in the stated figures.

Those system-wide totals do not tell an individual claimant how much they will receive. The result depends on whether the claim is allowed, the applicable claim class and interest rate, the unpaid balance, and whether distribution requirements are met.

Some coverage still cites an estimate that claims of $50,000 or less would receive about 118%, covering about 98% of customers. The Associated Press reported that figure on May 8, 2024, as a proposal-era estimate. It is not a current guarantee or a calculation of any one person’s payment. In the same report, FTX CEO John Ray III said the proposed plan contemplated returning “100% of bankruptcy claim amounts plus interest for non-governmental creditors.” That statement described the proposal, not a promise that every claimant would receive an identical amount or payment date.

What was announced about the fifth distribution

FTX Trading Ltd. and the FTX Recovery Trust announced on July 17, 2026, that an approximately $900 million fifth distribution was scheduled to commence on July 31, 2026. The announcement set June 16, 2026, as the record date. A schedule or announcement is not proof that payments were completed. The official materials cited here do not establish completion or provide a later distribution date.

FTX’s FAQ states that eligibility for that distribution required an Allowed Claim as of the record date, including completion of original-holder KYC by that date. Claimants also needed to submit a valid tax form, complete onboarding with a distribution service provider (DSP), and pass sanctions screening. Missing a deadline can prevent payment in a particular distribution; the FAQ also describes further timelines that can result in permanent forfeiture of a distribution tied to a record date.

The fifth-distribution announcement named BitGo, Kraken and Payoneer as service providers. For a transferred claim, the transferee needed to appear in the official register by the relevant record date, and the 21-day notice period needed to pass without objection. A private sale agreement by itself does not make the buyer the registered distribution recipient.

The sequence of recent announcements provides context, not proof of payment: FTX announced a fourth distribution for March 31, 2026, and then announced the fifth distribution in July. No later date or completed-payment status is established in the cited official materials.

How to check your own FTX claim status

  1. Sign in to the official FTX Customer Claims Portal and review Step 9, the Distribution Dashboard. FTX also identifies Kroll’s claim lookup as a way to check status.
  2. Check whether the claim is marked allowed or disputed. FTX says claims may remain disputed while under review or while jurisdiction and reconciliation issues are assessed; a disputed claim may later become allowed.
  3. Review your KYC status, tax form, DSP onboarding and sanctions-screening status in the official channels. Requirements and deadlines are tied to particular record dates.
  4. If your claim was transferred, verify that the transfer is processed and the transferee is listed on the official register for the relevant record date.
  5. Read notices about unclaimed distributions and forfeiture carefully. A missed filing or onboarding deadline can have consequences for the distribution connected to that record date.

FTX says voting is not required to receive a distribution on a customer entitlement claim, and the claims filing deadline has passed. Follow official portal and claims-agent paths only: the July 2026 announcement warns about phishing and says FTX will never ask a claimant to connect a wallet.

The Bahamas process is separate from U.S. Chapter 11

FTX Digital Markets Ltd. was handled through a separate Bahamas liquidation, not the U.S. Chapter 11 distribution process. PwC’s Joint Official Liquidators described an anticipated first and final distribution for eligible FTX Digital Markets Convenience Class customers and creditors on February 18, 2025, at approximately 120% of adjudicated claim values including post-petition interest. That figure applies only to eligible claimants in that separate process; it should not be used to estimate a U.S. Chapter 11 claim.
