FMC Announces Elevest Insect Control: Ingredients, Uses and 2026 Label Update

FMC announced Elevest insect control on May 5, 2020, after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had recently granted registration, according to the company’s launch announcement. Elevest is a restricted-use agricultural insecticide premix—not a household product—that combines chlorantraniliprole (FMC’s Rynaxypyr active) with bifenthrin. FMC’s later reporting describes U.S. and international product launches beginning in late 2020 and continuing through 2023, so the 2020 announcement and subsequent commercial launch timeline are distinct milestones.

What is Elevest insect control?

Elevest is a commercial crop-protection insecticide from FMC. Its combination of active ingredients is intended to address Lepidopteran pests as well as other chewing or sucking insects. In its 2020 announcement, FMC positioned the premix for crops including soybeans, sweet corn, cotton, peanuts and potatoes. FMC’s current U.S. product page describes use in corn, soybeans, cotton and selected specialty crops; permitted crops and uses depend on the applicable current label and state registration.

FMC’s current product page says Elevest controls more than 40 pests. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independently established count or performance statistic. The available materials do not provide an independent yield-response figure or controlled efficacy statistic.

What active ingredients are in Elevest?

The premix contains bifenthrin and chlorantraniliprole, which FMC calls Rynaxypyr active. FMC described the launch-era formulation as combining full rates of both active ingredients. California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation product record lists the formulation as 14.4% bifenthrin and 9.6% chlorantraniliprole. Those percentages come from California’s product record and should not be treated as a substitute for the current registered label.

FMC identifies the active ingredients’ insecticide groups as 3A and 28. The exact label should be consulted for product-specific directions and restrictions; the active-ingredient names alone do not establish that a use is permitted for a particular crop, pest or application.

Which pests and crops does FMC identify?

FMC’s launch announcement discussed corn earworms, soybean loopers, armyworms, stink bugs and plant bugs. Its current U.S. product page highlights soybean podworm, western bean cutworm, soybean loopers, stink bugs and cotton bollworm, among other pests. These are FMC’s product descriptions, not independent comparative efficacy findings.

The company describes flexibility for at-plant soil application against early-season pests and later foliar applications for pod-feeding pests. Which crop, pest, timing and application method are allowed—and at what rate—must be determined from the current applicable label.

What changed in the at-plant label?

In an update dated February 19, 2026, FMC announced an expanded at-plant label for seedling pests of field and sweet corn. The company describes in-furrow spray, surface banding and broadcast application over the soil surface, along with an expanded rate range. The update directs users to the product label for the application details; this summary does not establish specific rates or permitted conditions.

How should growers compare Elevest with a single-active option?

FMC’s 2020 announcement drew a distinction between using a single-active Rynaxypyr product for Lepidopteran pressure and considering Elevest where Lepidopteran pests occur alongside other insects. That is FMC’s stated product-positioning guidance, not an independent recommendation. FMC technical service manager Bruce Stripling also said scouting helps determine whether a premix fits a situation, and highlighted beneficial-insect conservation when choosing an insecticide.

A field-level decision requires checking the crop, identified pest complex, timing, application method, label-permitted use and rate, and state registration. Beneficial-insect considerations may also matter. Without that field context and the applicable label, the product descriptions do not support a use recommendation.

Registration, restrictions and where to verify the label

FMC labels Elevest a Restricted Use Pesticide and instructs users to read and follow all label directions, precautions and restrictions. The company notes that some products may not be registered for sale or use in every state. Elevest is not presented as a household insecticide.

California’s Department of Pesticide Regulation lists Elevest as active, marks it federally restricted, gives the signal word “CAUTION,” and records a California registration date of July 11, 2023. That date is for the California record, not the original federal registration. DPR says its report is guidance and does not replace the legally registered label. Check the current label and state registration before any purchase or use.
